Here is what he has so far :( He's a bit impatient so it's all local and not nearly the good deals online )
Antec True power 550
P4C800 E Dlx ( I recommended instead of the P4P800 )
P4 2.8E ( I tried to get him to get the C but he's not up to par on the speed specs and now has the E since that's all the place he went to had )
Kingston HyperX 1 GB ( 2 X 512 ) PC4000 memory ( I tried to get him to get Crucial or Corsair or something but again .. Impatience and this is what they had at the store )
ATI 9800Pro 128
Memorex something or other DVD/CD RW ( I let him handle that one )
HD: He currently has one Seagate 160GB Drive ATA100 7200RPM drive
But I think he is looking at 2 X Raptor 37 GB Drives to raid and then the Seagate as a Backup storage drive

He's out getting a Case at the moment not sure what he's getting yet , I just told him to get one with atleast 4 Case fans and 4 HD bays.

Plans to pick up some 5.1 speakers , I told him to get Bose THX certified ;)

He already has the Flight Yoke too.

What else am I leaving out here guys ? That he might need ?

He SAYS he wanted to do this just so he could have a good machine to handle FS2004 and didn't want to spend much money , but ummmmmmm, between us ... I think he's caught the bug .... ;)

Now I can teach him to OC that 2.8 as well :)

I don't think so , but he has a Great Fluight yoke complete with foot peddles and Throttle control.

Hehe he's got the bug eh?? :D

Not much left out except a monitor? What were your plans there, CRT or LCD? I've found my 16ms LCD used on my P4 rig doesn't show any ghosting at all. My only suggestion in this department would be get 16ms or lower, and go NEC :) I use nothing but NEC monitors and have never been disappointed. 4 flat screens (3 for work), and 3 CRT's never had problems with any, not a single dead pixel. My oldest NEC CRT was from 1995 or before (max reso 800x600) and is still going strong. I just gave it away to charity not 2 weeks ago.

Thanks guys , Even though he has the budget for an LCD, I think I'm going to reccommend a 2" CRT ( If he still decides to get one that big )

As to the Sound Card .... I am going to have him try the built in Sound and see what he thinks. He's not exactly an Audiophile so decent 5.1 Surround is enough for him ... I mean hell , He's been using prebuilt systems with Onboard everything for his entire life.

I'm glad he will get to experience the amazing difference when doing it himself....

the funny thing is , This is the Exact system ( a few minor mods on brand names of memory and DVD Burner, and E series Chip ) that I would be building for myself. So I get to see what my choices would have produced ... :)

Does he have 5.1 speakers? Or even if you don't have 5.1 speakers, will the 5.1-compatible sound card still make a difference when using 2 speakers or a headset?
