Looks like a new BF game is coming spring 2005, Battlefield 2.
Based on the modern combat title for the PS2, sounds good, maybe it will be like an updated desert combat like Vietnam is to EOD.
Here's the news i found:

So, does this mean there won't be a DC-type mod for Battlefield Vietnam using the new engine? :(

Interesting! It better be a mod and not a standalone game for BFV.

I bet it's not a Mod .... Well could be ... but not a FREE mod ...
There will be other DC type mods for BFV ... I just doubt that Dice or EA will be in on it with this one planned to come out next year .... Other people will make some mods for it though.

If it's released as a standalone game I'm buying it. I love this game!

EA and Digital Illusions release new information on the sequel to Battlefield 1942 announced yesterday.
Following yesterday's announcement of Battlefield 2 (working title), which took the form of a Swedish-language press release on Digital Illusions' Web site, Electronic Arts has today released new information on the game. Scheduled for release in spring 2005 and powered by an all-new game engine, Battlefield 2 is set in the modern era and will allow players to employ many of the most technologically advanced vehicles and weapons systems currently available. The new engine incorporates a realistic material penetration feature, measuring each weapon's ability to fire through different materials and forcing players to distinguish between concealment and cover.
The environments in Battlefield 2 will include everything from remote forests to city streets, and, intriguingly, every map in the game will adjust in scale according to the number of players in the world--ensuring a perfect vehicle-to-player ratio at all times. It's a feature that makes a lot of sense, given that the game has the potential to support more than 100 players simultaneously and that there could be more than 30 different types of vehicle in use during a battle.
In team-based online battles, players will have the option to either join a squad on the front lines or to work behind the scenes in commander mode--issuing instructions to their teammates. With in-game success, players will be able to increase their rank from recruit up to general, unlocking additional weapons, medals, vehicle decals, and the like en route.

There's another thread on here about it, theres a pic that is almost a rip of the Docks map in DC.
The game play upgrades sound interesting but I beginning to feel like EA is milking the Battlefield franchise. I mean really this Battlefield 2 version claims to be a newer game engine than the current BVF engine. And if it plays with ATI cards anything like BVF does than I want no part of it. I say "EA before you bite off more than you can chew why don't you make what you have already sold (BVF) work because as it stands right now it ain't really that impressive".
Besides I liked Battlefield 2 better when it was called Desert Combat. Been there done that. Go help Valve finish HL2 and put Gabe on a tread mill for god sakes!!!
:D
i just hope all the people who contributed to DC get something...
development is underway on the sequel to the award-winning Battlefield 1942™ PC game.
Hello! Is anybody listening? I thought BFV was the sequel to BF1942??????
So is BFV just a mod with a lot of technical glitches? I thought BFV had an all new rendering engine and blah blah blah? So what gives? What am I missing here?

Thanks Illini25,
I interpret this as the well talked about version from over at the DC Forums. Supposedly there was talk there of EA & DICE buying out Frank DeLises' (Owner of Trauma Studios > maker of DesertCombat Mod) Mod. Could this be the "Retail" version of DC...?? Sounds like it to me. We all know that DC was "Publicly" release as and still IS in the "Beta" stages (latest so far is DC .7Beta). I've been playin' DC since v.20 Alpha and I loved it!! I'd be willing to put up some $$$ for a "Final" release - minus most of the bugs and lag of course and hopefully it will run on the BF Engine2 like BFV is...

Speaking of which what do you need in form a pay pal for this money so funds DON'T come out of YOUR pocket.I'm behind this month, so far just 1x donation came in, so I'm 3 weeks late and 100 dollars short for the month of April. And May is just 1 week away. Surprised he hasn't nagged me yet since I haven't sent the payment in yet. Was just hoping some more donations would roll in.
