i was wondering why my xp2500 was taking so long to finish this 1 unit, 160 points worth and it is taking 53 minutes per frame at 198 x 11=2180MHz.

wow...is something else running in the background? I have a 2400xp+ and its taking 25mins per unit. My 2000mhz are taking about 30mins, and 1800+ are taking about 34mins. None of which are overclocked. I dont have the 2400+ logfile as its home.

i don't seem to be runnig "Extra SSE boost OK" the way you are, only"extra 3Dnow boost"

are you running the new core or whatever ?

Im using the new 4.0 client and the fahcore_78
In my advanced options for it i have the following flags set

-forceSSE (Yes it MUST be in uppercase) and -advmethods

fahsrv -forceSSE -advmethods

3dnow is why its taking u twice as long. You should be going at 23mins per unit.
Also you should check your system for parasites using spybot S&D and ad-aware 6.18

Do you have it set to run as a service or as a shortcut?

to do it as a shortcut right click on the fah.exe file and left click create shortcut.
then right click on the shortcut and left click properties.
in the target line add the flags. for example:

C:\download\fah\fahsrv.exe -forceSSE -advmethods

then click apply and use the shortcut to start it.

okay i have it using the SSE instructions now, going to see how fast it runs.

"C:\download\fah\fahsrv.exe -forceSSE -advmethods"

i think that should read .......fah.exe -advmethods -forceSSE, at least that is the way i got it to work :)

either way i wil report back what happens here. i can tell you it has increased my CPU temp by 2 or so degress C, that may mean it is working harder now.

thanks

I just used my .exe name as an example. I run them all as a service and it just made it easier for me. I don't use a shortcut anymore. Post your results once its done a few units.
Good Luck!

well the first frame is done and my monitoring program tells me the same work unit did a frame in 22 mins, 11 sec, so far so good, now to see if it will be stable :)

i may have to change my other 2 rigs over to this type of setup.

You should go here:
http://folding.amdmbpond.com/service.html

and set them up as a service. Then if they are all running similiar just export the folding Key and double click it on the other 2 systems to make it easier. It does speed up folding slightly from running over the shortcut method for some reason, AND if your system reboots for any reason even sitting at the log-on screen will cause your system to fold where the shortcut method will have to wait till u log in. Also there is nothing visible on the taskbar too...very stealthy.

thanks for explaining this to me pieman :)

P3 HT or P4? If its P4 HT then just make 2 directories, 1 called fah1 and the other called Fah2 and on the Fah2 copy the fahsrv.exe and run it, when it asks if you would like to change the config say YES and when it asks for machine ID set it to 2

No prob about the help! Anytime! You will double your output now I hope so it benefits the whole team!

I still need to set all of mine up as a service and not use FireDaemon to do it :p

Hopefully when I get back from Arkansas I will be able to do so :D

I have two of the 160 point units. My 1.4 P4 needs 44 mins per frame, and the P4 2.8(hyperthread, 2 id's on same machine) is needin 40 mins per frame.

Maybe SSE is a boost for Pentium only ???

I tested my Athlon 1.2 Ghz with that setting ( running a 120 point Job ) and it was running at like 1 hr 40 Min / Frame ... I took off the SSE and it dropped to about 30 Min/ frame ..

total time went form a week to 2.5 days !!!!

on my xp2500 that is overclocked somewhat, SSE did improve the speed quite a bit, it also raised my cpu temp 2 degrees C.

it finished the first one today and got another 160 pointer and then 2 hours later the PC restarted by it self.

i ended up having to lower my FSB by 2 to make it stable with the SSE running, plus i lowerd my v-core 1 notch to bring down the temp some.

will let it run and see what happens at this setting.

so far so good on my xp2400 overclocked with SSE running though, of couse that PC has always been more stable anyways :)

The -forceSSE was intended for the AMD chips. The Intel already has that and its not needed to force it. The 3Dnow is much slower usually.

okay i installed this on my xp1900 palimino at 11 x 150, about the max FSB that old mobo will; run 24/7.

i used to get around 1 hour, 15 minutes on the 160 pointer, but now it is only taking 30:25 with SSE on for the same deal.

i highly recomend switching to the new 4.0 client version, maybe a repost but it worth repeating .

:)
