Need quick answer

Which virus was it that was out around a year ago...and infected systems would get the message "Your computer is shutting down in 30 seconds"....then it would be shut off.

I know Blaster which was out around last summer/fall, but I'm pretty sure there was one over a year ago that did this same thing.

I searched through the Symantec website and google and got nothing related to a virus like that.

A Kak variant....found mention of that shutting down..but that's not ringing a bell. I mean..Kak rings a bell, yes, but not Kak shutting down a computer.

There's still a virus name that's escaping me.

An employee at a law firm client of mine, was on her home computer.

She called me around 3 months ago, saying she was getting a new computer, getting DSL, how to set it up on DSL, etc. I said I'll do it, just get a router, told her a little Linky BEFSX41 would be fine.

Well, guess her boyfriend told her she didn't need a router, whatever, he set it up for her. She got some HP Pavilion, XP home, 256 megs, typical CompUSA or Staples rig.

Never did any Windows updates...never even launched the Windows update wizard.

Never activated the antivirus...had Symantec 2002 on it, never activated, never updated.

Surprise surprise.
