Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. I tried to help my nephew install SBC DSL software and a NIC in his PC. Lots of problems installing, but finally installed. Now WinMe keeps freezing, "explore" in task manager seems to be the problem, if I hit - ctrl+alt+del - and end task, (explore), it works temporarily then freezes again. I haven't worked with the WinME OS in a long time, and I know I may not be offering enough info. But I hope someone can recognise this problem and point me in the right direction for a fix:(

how much ram and what cpu?
i recently did a worm removal/data recovery and then wiped and did clean install of 98se. 350 mhz pent II 98 Mb ram. updated & tweaked the box at my crib, using sbc/yah dsl but behind router and switch and not using sbc/yah software. had the box running like a champ. client took it to the office and installed sbc/yah software. exact symptoms you got. went to look at it, had more processes running for sbc/yah than all else on the box, was sucking up all the resources. and the hdd was thrashing like it was gonna blow.
removed sbc/yah software, trashed the os, had to reinstall. sbc says if you don't have a router you must use their software or you can't connect. told client to get router, but didn't listen and got called again for same issues.
ended up telling client my guarantee was void the minute that software was installed the second time.
stay away from that sbc/yah software if possible.
you may have to reinstall os and get a router. xp supports pppoe
otherwise you apparently need router to avoid that sbc/yah disc.
wish i had better news for ya.

Yes the SBC software is " WACK " ! And his 500Mhz Celeron with (95Mb??) of ram was not a lot of help. I ended up formating his disk and clean reinstalling WinME, software and bare essentials of SBC software. IT WORKS. But I wouldn't recommend SBC to nobody.
