As Battlefield Vietnam nears....expect our server to be temporarily down, say for a day or two. Why? Because by then, the SCSI drives will have arrived, new controller card, and the servers been through enough changes where I'm just going to want to start everything from scratch! Since it's had a software firewall installed, several versions of bf and DC, and even thought it's not been hit by a virus, or as far as I know a worm or trojan, I just think it's safe practice. With the new dual gigs, fast drives, and extra RAM, should be able to format, install, update, and be up in a matter of several hours.

On another note...we'll be starting the rules of the server over from scratch! Same basic idea about the super retards doing stupid stuff, but the "base camping, and 30 second" rules have been met with mixed enthusiasm. So I'm going to backup a bit on that, add to this the idea that Vietnam will be played quite a bit differently. Lets all remember, Vietnam was more about dirty fighting, and more upclose combat, booby traps, stuff like that. So Faust and I are going to take this oppurtunity to re-evaluate things, receive input, and adjust as we see fit.

A couple of things are unknown here...main point is the availability of a good remote admin utility. From what I've read, Brandon from kicker/bfcommand has been contracted by EA to supply his server manager on the CD. He's the guy we purchased the admin utility from a while ago, it was great, then 1.6 came along and he never got it updated because he's been involved with the Vietnam one. Kinda wasted 50 bucks on it...but, hey, we didn't know at that time, and BBO is marginal at best.

So guys...I'll be doing my best to have the server primed and ready, I don't know exactly when the downloadable dedicated Vietnam server will be available...but I hope to know ahead of time, so I can take that night before, and format/rebuild the server, then download and launch the Vietnam server the next day. I wish to have it running the very first day of release! It's most likely under 2 weeks away now...from the time I write this.

As for admins....those who wish to continue helping out admin'n the server...please let me know! There are some admins who haven't been playing or admin'ing lately, I don't know if they're just done with DC, if they're done playing on the SG server, or what. But please let me know. Likewise, if you're done admin'ing, also let me know. I think everyone's done a great job, we do get compliments about our server being well run and relatively retard free. I wish to carry forward this reputation in Vietnam...even more so. I want to keep a relatively good sized group of admins...with the idea of providing somewhat 'round the clock coverage. Most of us all play at a regular time, according to our schedules, time zones, etc. Ideally I'd like to have a good "spreading out of admins" to cover the 24 hours of the day, weekdays, and weekends.

Those who contribute to the server....I thank you very much, it's very much appreciatedm and put to good use...helps keep the server running for us all. I think we're done with hardware upgrades for now, the SCSI drives ended up being a bit more than I hoped on spending, got into that "oh no, you won't outbid ME"...thing. I think it will last as is for a while now, with the duallie PIII 1.0's. It's been an expensive month for the server....300 bucks for the memory (Thank you to one person who paid for half of that!), and 210 bucks for the controller/SCSI setup. Plus I tossed Rich 125 bucks for the bandwidth. Plus in 2 weeks, a lot of us are going to rush out and spend 50 bucks on Vietnam! Those who are new here, or new to playing the game, or to what the SG game server is about, if you spend a bit of time on our server playing, and enjoy it....please help support it! Reach for that paypal button on the gameserver page!

And speaking of the gameserver page....sure could use some updating! ;) Been a while since the server's been PIII 750's now running DC .6.

And lastly...does anyone want to help run the TeamSpeak server?

Hey Cat-

I haven't been around much, work has been keeping me plenty busy and being a homeowner is a full-time job to boot (so I'm learning!). I'm proud to be part of the admin team on such a reputable server and hope to continue on through the BF:V days as well.

One note, however, I will be shipping out for 8 weeks starting March 21st for a GameRiot tour (we'll be featuring BF:V coincidentally!) so I obviously won't be around at all during that time. When I return I would definitely like to be a part of the team again.
Thanks for the great times so far!

Hey Cat:

I am 100% IN for the Vietnam if you still want my help on that. I will actually be in Las Vegas from March 17-22 and then March 25-April 3, so when I get back, I'll have to get back into it.

Either way, I have been redoing the website from scratch and haven't really done much to the current one. I'll update the details today, but major upgrades will be for the new game.

Thanks for putting up with my major slowness (over a month) and thanks for the awesome server!

P.S. I'll be throwing some cash your way. ;)
