just upgraded my computer (everything, except the hard drive). The old computer had a PCI NIC card that had a static ip address 10.250.27.7.
The new computer has an on-board LAN and I no longer need the PCI NIC. When I try to set the on-board NIC to the same static IP, Windows tells me that the IP is already assigned to the old NIC. This NIC is no longer on the computer but I guess still resident in the Windows adapters.
Question is, how do I remove this adapter and get my old static IP back.
Thanks in advance.

So you didn't format and install a fresh copy of Windows when you upgraded all components? Hmmm...that often leads to trouble down the road, a system not running top notch, often with lots of little quirks.

Anyways...if you're running Win9X...boot up in safe mode, go to Device manager, remove your old PCI NIC. Reboot...see what happens.

What OS is it?

If it's WinXP, you can check view-->show hidden devices in Device Manager. I second what YOSC said, too. If you haven't done a fresh install of Windows, that should be a priority.
