Some of you know I put my Dell PowerEdge up as a Call of Duty server. It's mostly for my old clan buddies, ZombieBattalion...who I used to hang with and be involved with back in the UT days. They were quite a well known clan, did a lot of serious competitions, ladders, etc.

I'm pretty much hands off of that server, I don't really like the game, just put it up for them to start building their clan up with again, bring "ZB" out of retirement, start competing again. They were supposed to be chipping in via PayPal, and having LAN parties in the training room down the hall from my office, here's a pic of one row....there's 30 PC's in this room. LAN parties were going to be 20 bucks/head..which would go to Rich the bandwidth guy, who actually owns these PC's and the bandwidth they sit on. Imagine having a LAN party, server is on premesis, server is public because you're on an OC-3, so it would be a jammed packed server, and peeps who couldn't make it to the LAN can still play from home!

Anyways, they're not chipping in via paypal, and they cancelled the first attempt at a LAN party. So no $$$ for Rich, and I'm not up for a free ride from them just because I can produce and host a server for them for free.

If we have some number of SG players who do indeed play on it, I'll consider letting it stay. If we don't, I'll probably be pulling the plug pretty soon unless they start coughing up some cabbage for it.

Wish I could help out Cat. Like you, Im not a big fan of CoD. Don't even have the game. :(

Nice PC set up though. Wish I was located close to ya..I'd love to be at one of those lan parties. Never been to one before. :( Hardly any in this area..if any at all.

Yeah it's a pretty cool training room. Full leather chairs, nice headphones, P4 2.53 with 1024 RAM, nVidia fx5600 vid cards, WinXPp. Would make nice LAN parties.

It's the training room for a Microsoft author/teacher, Karl Franklin.

All sorts of .NET classes. His office is pretty cool, it's a studio setup, he has a band that practices/records there, often has jam sessions. Also recently kicked off a big internet radio talk show recently. That streaming server shares the OC-3 with our server.

Yeah I've played on it a couple times. Don't really care for COD Multi. Not enough depth to it. I could care less if the plug were pulled on that server.

I don't play CoD multiplayer so how about making it a vanilla BF server instead?.. Pacific maps only!! ;) :)

nah.. j/k.. If you aren't getting the support, then pull the plug.

I do. Call of duty is an awsome multiplayer game. You can take it down if they don't pay but I use it.

I played on it a couple of times, but there was not enough people on it to make it fun.
I would play more if other SG's would.

I haven't even tried the MP mode. I'm busy trying to get my skills up on BF/DC.;)

Personally I think this server would best be used as a Private Passworded server for SG players. May be 12 player max or something. If the squad/clan type deal takes off it would be nice to have a place to pratice. Have inter squad matches and stuff. Just my $0.02

I suppose that would be nice for people with BF...:p

I say YoSC temporarly converts it into a UT2k4 Demo/something else server for SGers to hang out on for a little while...Passworded.

It would allow people without BF to play with other SGers.

Now, im loving that idea! Just grabbed the demo yesterday off of Roody's site and I would enjoy a few round of UT2k4 :)

Decide what to do with it yet, YOSC?

I put a post up on their forums....giving til end of month.

It's only a dual PIII 500...dunno how smooth of a server it could run on current games...

Honestly I really want to build another Small Business Server for my home...want a duallie for that.
