ok.....
my girlfriend got a new 200 gig hdd
to replace the 40giger thats starting to sing all the time.
used powerquest v2i protector to create the image from the 40 gig drive.
i restored the image and all went well.
no error messages or anything funny at all happened during the process either of the 2 times.
when i try to boot for the first time on the freshly imaged drive.....the thing gets up to the welcome screen where all the icons for users on the machine are listed.....BUT
the welcome screen i come up to has no user icons loaded on it.
while sitting at this point the system is actually alive..........the mouse responds to movement and the pointer even changes when the system is reading a disc.
it just never gets past the point to where i can see the user accounts.
one thing im thinking is to put the original image drive back into the pc .....fire it up and turn off the welcome screen so i get a log on box....then re-image the source drive and try to restore that image to the new drive (200 giger)
anyone been thru this before?
