I just noticed my router was on xbox's not-compatible list and would like to find out if anyone actually tired this..

I don't see what's not compatible with it... If at all, you'll have problems with certain games but port forwarding should take care of that. :D
Do you know if your router has UPnP support? MS could be using that to determine what’s compatible and what's not with XBOX live. Hard to say though, I haven’t really looked into what’s compatible with XBOX live but my SmoothWall seems to handle it well and I have UPnP disabled. (security reasons)

Should work fine, my wife's kids XBox has been plugged into my network through several routers, and never had an issue. I'm not running UPnP compatible routers either, although that's not a security concern anymore, MS released a patch for that quite some time ago, it didn't affect routers in the first place, and even if you're not patched, you're behind NAT on the router.
Pretty much every router works with it, those are the ones that have been thouroughly tested with it though.

.Microsoft is intentionally sending a spurious ICMP packet to your router when it runs XBox Live Network — as a warning about a problem that might happen later. This (correctly) causes the NETGEAR router to terminate the session. The ICMP packet was Microsoft's attempt to solve another problem that routers from various companies were having with their service and ICMP. Instead, it caused a different problem.

nope, my netgear RP114 did not work with Xbox Live. I can't tell you what the specifi issue was, it was awhile ago, but I tried all the firmware updates, combed through many many forums and tried all the workarounds I could find, telneted into the router and messed with its configuration, etc, all to no avail.
I ended up just getting a 'certified Xbox Live compatible' router, D-Link DI-624 (I wanted to go wireless anyway) and haven't had a problem since
