Anyone else think this is good stuff? Only using 7.5 megs with all options running.
I only hope it is effective.

I have a question about AVG, I have been running the 7.0 Pro since Iit came out and I have to say I swear by it, but a funny thing, I built two PC's on the weekend, and both had XP Pro SP1 fully updated, now heres is the thing, after installing AVG, like usual it gives you 2 or 3 updates, and for some reason on these 2 PC's both P4's with 512 Ram, it totally bogged down the system to the point where it ran like a 486, I couldn't figure it out, so I went and uninstalled it on both systems and they ran like tops, it is the strangest thing??Anyone have any ideas, my system, and all the ones prior to this run fine, no problems at all, but you should have seen this, it was brutal, it was the only software installed on the PC's after XP and all the updates....This is strange...

No clue man... I have my AVG trimmed down to 5 megs ram usage after disabling the e-mail scanner, and the useless services. Runs great.

WolfgangPC are the pc's the exact same hardware configuration? The same drivers? My thinking is that it's a conflict with a driver, I know Creative and ATI have a lot of conflict issues with their drivers. Have you searched AVG's site or asked their tech support for an answer? I have installed AVG on many pcs with every OS and haven't had a single conflict yet.
:)
Mine is using under 3 megs now....this is pretty cool.
Anyone using it ever get hit with a virus?

All I did was format with XP Pro, did all of the Windows critical updates and the odvious optional ones, then installed AVG Pro, did all of the updates, and it just killed the system in terms of speed and things hanging, so when I removed the program and rebooted it went fine, the systems were both brand new and I can't figure it out, as I said before I have been running it forever on mine and I swear by it, so I had to bite the bullit and stick Norton on these two systems.

I am stumped also, AVG is on 3 systems here at home and it does not slow them down the least.

I am wondering if it is the version I have now, it is AVG Pro 7.0 and I have that nice little Key Generator for it, so I wonder if I have over used it, I have put it on at least 14 or so systems in the past, and for some reason these two it just screwed up..

Ive been telling all my customers Just say no to avg...too much gets thru it.
We pulled it apart at work and tried every setting it had....still crap gets thru.
The Computer Gurus here say the same thing and We have pretty much the best computer Gurus in the world.
Just My 2 cents
Oh and Here = CMU;)

What gets through? It finds more than any other app I've used, when someone complains like that I think it's operator error. Not you personally but whomevers computer it's on. It finds WAY more than ANY Symantec product.

They did some unofficial tests with it. When I get to work on Mon I can get a copy of the results and post.
Ive not had a lot of luck with it myself so I just use Norton corporate since I get it for free.
I trust what they tell me to a point but they do support Norton so sometimes I gotta wonder if ya know what I mean.

I know what you mean. The problem with "unofficial tests" and computer magazine tests in general is that they don't use real viruses to test with, so ask yourself...... do you want a program that falsely identifies a file as a virus? ICSA Labs (http://www.icsalabs.com) and VirusBulletin (http://www.virusbtn.com) are the 2 definitive sources on virus rating and AVG passes both. Symantec passes as well but I can personally tell you that of all the clients that I have switched to AVG from Norton (some home versions and some Corporate) over half of them AVG found viruses/trojans that Norton missed, real viruses.

I agree with Mnosteele, I took a computer Tech course last summer and all 3 of the instructors, disliked Norton and said watch over the course of this program and we will show you why, sure enough all the PC's we worked on came in screwed up in one way or another all had Norton 2003 fully updated, so when we ran AVG on it, it found a ton of viruses and what not, the way they explained it is more or less people follow and just go by common names and lets face Norton is the most popular out there, so their theory was it dosen't mean it's better, GM sells the most cars and is the most popular, does that mean they make a better car than Rolls Royce??? LOL not a chance. I think if anyone trys AVG they will stick with it, Norton is a sled..

Well I just got off the phone with a client who had Symantec Corporate 8.1 fully updated and scanned this morning and found nothing. He said his pc was doing some strange things, I told him to uninstall Symantec and install AVG and it has already found 4 trojans and it's not even done scanning. You be the judge.

A little more than that actually, it has a lot more advanced features such as personalizing updates, scanning method & time, what types of files to scan etc. I say it's worth it sonce it's so cheap compared to other AV apps and better. If you use the FREE version make sure you have the update email scanner plugin for Outlook Express 6 - HERE (http://www.grisoft.cz/beta/avgemc/avgemc_en.htm).

I had two canned yesterday by AVG. Disturbing part was that three others were in Temp internet files and Microtrend's housecall picked them up and not AVG. :(
