Thanks guys for a great forum.

I have WinXP with the lastest updates....my isp is cogeco and they just increased their bandwith to 5Mbps

5Mbps up and 640 down

I may get a switch to add some more computers.

I have run all the spyware programs that were listed here and my comp is clean....I've also down all the registry tweak stated here.

My question is.....what should the settings be in cablenut.

I ran the test and its about 2.7Mbps

Thanks for your help!

TCP options string = 020405b40103030001010402
MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.
MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which equals MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 64240
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 64240

RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:

256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
bandwidth * delay product:

Your RcvWindow limits you to: 2569.6 kbps (321.2 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 1027.84 kbps (128.48 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

. Under your LAN connection - properties - general tab, uninstall all the protocols there that you do not need.

2. Open IE and select tools - internet options - connections - LAN settings, make sure NOTHING there is checked.

3. ALWAYS connect your modem via ethernet (NIC) and make sure you have the latest drivers for your NIC from the manufacturer. Set your NIC duplex mode to 10mb half duplex for Cable, for DSL it is ISP dependent unless you are using a router, if so then set it to 100mb full duplex for both Cable & DSL (the instructions are in my Help & Tips link). If you are using a router make sure you have the latest firmware.

4. Clear your temporary internet files.

5. Power cycle your modem, unplug it for atleast 15 seconds.

6. Download and update then do a scan with SpyBot 1.2 http://beam.to/spybotsd & Ad Aware 6.0 http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download to remove any spyware then install and update SpywareBlaster to stay spyware FREE. YOU MUST USE BOTH AD AWARE & SPYBOT TO ENSURE YOU ARE SPYWARE FREE SINCE ONE FINDS WHAT THE OTHER MISSES.

7. Make sure you do the faster web page tweak in Read1st link.

8. If you have Zone Alarm as a firewall uninstall it then visit Zonelabs.com for further instructions on removing it's left over junk.

9. Install Outpost Firewall http://www.agnitum.com/products/outpost or Sygate Firewall http://www.sygate.com/, both have FREE and Pro versions and are heads above ZA.

10. Scan for viruses with your antivirus app, if you do not have one get one IMMEDIATELY, AVG 6.0 http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php is an excellent FREE AV app.

11. Make sure you have ALL of the latest Windows Updates.

Those aren't the settings i gave you did you reboot after applying to registry in cablneut??

Mash

Thanks again brother for the reply...

I applied your settings and I restarted my comp.

Do you think that there is something preventing me from applying these settings?.....I don't have a firewall....virus checker or any other tweak program.

I just recently reinstall XP pro and added all the registry tweaks recommended here and ran all the spyware programs.....I just can't get my speed to increase.

Thanks again for all your help.

Cablenut keeps the settings......but I keep on getting this ......hmmmm?

I've talked to the tech people at cogeco and they told me they increased it to 5Mbps a few days ago.

TcpWindowSize GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize put 17520
in those slot in calbenut apply changes and reboot.

I'm sorry....

I put those values in and the speed got worse.....

also I have to set the tcp1323opts to 0 because when set to 1....my connection tested slower.

I must of messed something up....I didn't do a clean install of XP...it was a ghost image....so maybe something is wrong with my image.

I went into the registry to see the values but there isn't any for Rwin.

Maybe I shouldn't be messing around with this....hehe!

my speed wasn't great at the 3Mbps cap.....and now with the this
5Mbps cap it isn't any better

Thanks for you time.....I really don't know what to do.....maybe search the forum for some of the other values you recommended for other users and see if it improves.

My average speed is around

2.6Mbps.... I guess....

At the http://www.bandwidthplace.com/ speed test.....I never get past 2 Mbps

I never get past 3Mbps on any speed tests
