View Full Version : router WAN disconnection
every time my cable modem gets a new ip, my router doesn't seem to update itself automatically (SMC 7004ABR). awhile back i never had to touch a thing, but now every few weeks it needs manual updating even when set to dynamic ip. and also each time it does that all the lights on my router flash for about 2 minutes killing the entire network and then begins operating. anyone had this happen?
the only thing i did was use 4 comps (below) instead of 2, and they're all set to auto-ip.

Is your firmware up to date?
definitely. it was apparently random and nothing really significant happened that woudl make me think it's broken.
i thinks its just a setting problem with the router, check to see if ur dhcp server is set to accept more than 4pcs and ive tried to set a static ip in my pcs than config the router to route at those same ip adds and it work
example
pc 1 = 192.168.20.2 gateway 192.168.20.1
pc 2 = 192.168.20.3 gateway 192.168.20.1
pc 3 = 192.168.20.4 gateway 192.168.20.1
pc 4 = 192.168.20.5 gateway 192.168.20.1
router
lan ip - 192.168.20.1
dhcp server 192.168.20.2 to 192.168.50.5 or even upto x.x.x.100
its just a conflict of ip addreses hope this helps and before trying anything remember the settings so u can undo if more problem arises
