Looks I'll be getting a digital camera soon.... just looking around on Futureshop.

Basically I'm looking something no less than 3MP. Probably end up viewing most pics on computers but I may print out the nice pics. My impression is that more MP the sharper the image? A friend of mine has a 2MP camera and you can see the lack of quality in his pics esp with scenery shots.

I'm a bit interested in photography, so's my bro, so looking for a digital camera that can do a little bit of advanced stuff.

ie
low light environment
long/double exposure

Here are three that look alright from Futureshop.... any thoughts on them?

Olympus D-565 4.0MP Digital Zoom Camera (http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0665000FS10033988&catid=10131&logon=&langid=EN&dept=14&WLBS=fsweb9)

Olympus Stylus 400 4MP Digital Camera (http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&dept=14&WLBS=fsweb9&sku_id=0665000FS10031520&catid=&newdeptid=14)

Sony DSC-P92 5MP Digital Camera (http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&dept=14&WLBS=fs%2Dweb6&sku_id=0665000FS10028605&catid=&newdeptid=14)

Any idea why the S400 is more expensive than D565? I looked at the specs and I don't see much difference between the two.

I just bought this one (http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&dept=14&WLBS=fsweb8&sku_id=0665000FS10029660&catid=&newdeptid=14)

A bit more pricy, but from the revews and sample photos i've seen, it worth the extra cash (that's what i'm telling myself).

I wont have it untill next week though

Canon Powershot A80 4.0MP (http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&dept=14&WLBS=fsweb16&sku_id=0665000FS10034126&catid=&newdeptid=14)

Thanx for the replies so far.

Yep I've taken a look at Steve's site already. :)

This site seems to have a lot of info as well.

Basically I'm looking for something that's small enough so I can carry in my pocket but has some advanced functionalities a SLR has like manual focus, manual apature controls. Just want to learn to take more advanced photos. :)

Right now it looks like only the Canon ones have manual control (from what I've read). I like how you can change the lens on the Canon as well.

Now just not sure what MP...:o

The Canon lens are not interchangable, but they are expandible with add ons that work quite well. anothe plus is the A80 has an alloy body,

I have an earlier A cam, the A-20 which is the 2,1 mega pix version and I have been more then hapy with it.

The cam is big enuf to feel like you have something in your hand, which was important to me with my big hands.
Battery life is excellent, AA's another plus, build quality is definatly there and Canon makes great lens's
Picture quality is great and I'm sure the A-80 blows the A-20 away.
Here is a sample pic from the A-20

Oops that's what I meant.... you can have add-on lens.

The decision basically comes down to A80 or A70 I guess. There's quite a price difference between the two. :o
