Here's the skinny on it ...

My fiancee is getting deployed within the U.S. However, we reside in Indiana.

She will be going all along the eastern seaboard as well as the state of Washington. Her trips may vary from a couple of weeks to a few months. So, a desktop is out of the question.

I would like to send her a laptop once I get an address for her. Then at least she can use the phone line to see what is going on in the world and send email and take correspondance classes.

If anyone can help me out I would really appreciate it. I will want to load Win XP on it. She will not be gaming so high performance is not needed. But, I do need something solid.

If you are wanting to part with yours, give me a holler.

Thanks,

Just for surfing the net and email check out ebay, anything 400-800Mhz will be fine at a decent price for what she needs it for. Also see if there's any computer shows in your area, you can find great deals at those things. :D

Pretty nice but 366 is little slow, will still work though. I would recommend upgrading the RAM from 64 to 128, if it supports more then that go for it. Windows 95/98 run alot smoother with more RAM.

that specific one is a no. But the site is good. I am searching through the listings now.

I Know that XP requires a 400 MHz or better CPU and 128 MB Memory. I would like to find her a decent HDD but, I can always give her a DVD rom instead and save some cash.

One thing I am looking for though is something that I can get drives for. If it comes with a 3.5 I need a CD-ROm too. I need a fully functional piece here. It isn't just for web surfing. though mainly it will be. I can imagine that she will want to play MP3's and movies on it as well.

Thanks for the link BMED
