View Full Version : on the topic of the DC server rules/settings....
what do you guys think about this......
through the right setting, i/we can make it so that if you shoot a teammate, you receive the same amount of damage as you cause to your teammate.... either through direct fire or through splash damage (settings are independant). there is a "kickback" (thats the term for this) ratio, too... so, it doesn;t have to be a 1:1 damage ratio. or, we could make it so you recieve double the damage inflicted on a teammate...... sure would suck the fun outta team killing if you die before the guy you are shooting.
what do you guys think? i think it would be another deterrant for people blindly shooting at other players or bombing the snot out of a capture point that teammates are trying to capture.

Eh, I don't know. Probably not. Hurts the team. Just learn how to kick players in the console. If someone is being a smacktard vote them out.
Why pusish somebody for accidentally shooting somebody. or if a team mate is dumb and jumps in front of you or runs where you are tossing a grenade. Doesn't make much sense.

You'd be suprised how creative these TK'ers can be. I've played on servers that use kickback and what these players will do is jump infront of your vehicle(ie. tank, jeep, plane) purposely which results in:
You dieing
You getting a teamkill
And if they time it just right, they'll get your vehicle.
thanks for the input so far, guys.
i guess to sum up my thought process regarding this is........ let;s make the game unenjoyable for TKers. ok, so i have to be even more carful where and at what i shoot at or bomb.... or even have a way to warn you your about to make a mistake with your targeting.
like i said, it doesn;t have to be a 1:1 kickback ratio..... it could be 25% or less..... just enough to let you know that the (as an example) that SU-25 you are dousing with AAA was stolen by your teammate who is still in it.... or that tiny sillouette you are sniping at is actually your bud who has snuck into the enemy base. i think it would actually benefit the person who would normally just get a TK by giving them a sign that they're about to kill a teammate.
only real difference between kickback and no kickback is that if you TK (accidental or on purpose) is that you either die or just lose some health.
and as far as the exploiters.... well, they will be around no matter what preventative measures we take. the other friendly fire rules/settings will still be in effect.
anyways, just seeing what the other players (and admins) think about this.

I agree.
well, after some thought, here's what we'll probably do.....
rather than make turn it into another form of punishment, we will compromise and i will set kickback to something very small.... like 5% or 10% so it;s more like a warning.
i am sure there will be times that if you jam a SCUD up a teammates nose you may die....... 10% of 10,000% damage is still a death. but, i think (hope) that it won;t be a mojor inconvenience. if it makes the game unenjoyable (just like permanaent team balance), we will kill the setting.
this will probably take place over the weekend sometime after we update the server admin app, and any input will be very much appreciated, fellas.

I agree.
Just last night I killed an enemy and when I did, the explosion from his tank killed my teammate who was in his own vehicle nearby.
Chit happens, war is hell.
This is a team effort...it takes the team to take the flag.
I've seen nights where the opposition had only 4 kills a piece...but we dominated the map and nobody got a medal for it. We won the round....we won the war.
It seems that as we grow, we need to satisfy some ego's.

one bad scenario I can think of is stupid teammates running over MY landmines. They're gonna die, I get the TK AND I die.
