I'm sharing my 1.5 mbit connection with 4 roommates and 1 of my roommates downloads like mad (via fileshare bandwith hoggers such as bittorrent). The other people on the router (me included) just use internet for assignments and casual browsing, but since that one roommate has been downloading like mad, it makes even simple browsing UNBEARABLE. It is quite frustrating that this one user on the router is making every other users internet experience a nightmare. Is there any way to limit the amount of bandwith he receives? I dont want to cut him off from filesharing, but I just want to limit the amount of bandwith he is taking up so that the rest of us arent as misearable. Is it possible? Thanks.

Oh and my router is the D-link DI-704P

Try www.netlimiter.com this software will allow you to limit the speed in which he can download :)

This requires that i put it on his computer though right? I want to limit his bandwith WITHOUT him knowing, he wouldnt want us to but in all realism, we have to.

You cannot limit bandwidth on home market routers. Only thing I could tell you that wouldn't break the bank is to redo your network. You'll need one machine to act as a server/host to share the connection. That way you'll have one single point to control network traffic with third party software.
