I am looking for anything that I can do to speed up my DSL connection I have allready ran "Spybot" and "Ad-aware". It isn't as fast as advertised and sometimes can be sparatic. Any help would be appreciated. Here is some of the information about my computer.
1) Connection Type: DSL
2) ISP and advertised speed: SBCglobal or YahooSBC (samething) and 3000/256 in Kilobits/sec
3) My current settings by way of TCP/IP Analyzer Test are :
Browser/OS = Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; YComp 5.0.8.6)
Notes: Read the Analyzer FAQ if the above is not your IP address.
TCP options string = 020405a001010402
MTU = 1480
MTU is optimized for Windows XP PPoE DSL broadband. If not, consider raising MTU to 1500 for optimal throughput.
MSS = 1440
MSS is optimized for Windows XP PPPoE DSL broadband. If not, consider raising MTU to 1500 for maximum throughput.
Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 17280
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 17280
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
506880 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
253440 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
126720 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
63360 (MSS x 44)
bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 691.2 kbps (86.4 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 276.48 kbps (34.56 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
Consider increasing your RWIN value to optimize TCP/IP for broadband.
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
Time to live left = 117 hops
TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349) = 00000000
11943778 connections tested since 03.10.2001.
Analyzer version: 1.05 - updated 08.14.2003
4) Operating system: Windows XP Home ed.
Thanks for your help,

Try the following in cablenut assuming ur on the 1.5tru6.0 plain ameritech or sbc doesn't have 3.0 meg plain unless they changed it.

InitialMediumBufferCount = 240
InitialSmallBufferCount = 320

. Under your LAN connection - properties - general tab, uninstall all the protocols there that you do not need.
2. Open IE and select tools - internet options - connections - LAN settings, make sure NOTHING there is checked.
3. ALWAYS connect your modem via ethernet (NIC) and make sure you have the latest drivers for your NIC from the manufacturer. Set your NIC duplex mode to 10mb half duplex for Cable, for DSL it is ISP dependent unless you are using a router, if so then set it to 100mb full duplex for both Cable & DSL (the instructions are in my Help & Tips link). If you are using a router make sure you have the latest firmware.
4. Clear your temporary internet files.
5. Power cycle your modem, unplug it for atleast 15 seconds.
6. Download and update then do a scan with SpyBot 1.2 http://beam.to/spybotsd & Ad Aware 6.0 http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download to remove any spyware then install and update SpywareBlaster to stay spyware FREE. YOU MUST USE BOTH AD AWARE & SPYBOT TO ENSURE YOU ARE SPYWARE FREE SINCE ONE FINDS WHAT THE OTHER MISSES.
7. Make sure you do the faster web page tweak in Read1st link.
8. If you have Zone Alarm as a firewall uninstall it then visit Zonelabs.com for further instructions on removing it's left over junk.
9. Install Outpost Firewall http://www.agnitum.com/products/outpost or Sygate Firewall http://www.sygate.com/, both have FREE and Pro versions and are heads above ZA.
10. Scan for viruses with your antivirus app, if you do not have one get one IMMEDIATELY, AVG 6.0 http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php is an excellent FREE AV app.
11. Make sure you have ALL of the latest Windows Updates.

I thought that was the case in cableut you only had 1.5 change ur default recive window too 192000
Your upload should be 256-384 there upgrading the networks so just leave default send window the way it is.
How do all this stuff well cablenut came up with the software the vaules were founded by many people such as phillip on this site dannjr,cablenut both at www.broadbandnuts.com manosteele52 who is at both sites most of the values are found in tcpip white paper.

Ok the only thing you could try doing for speed is this http://www.broadbandnuts.com/index.php?page=dslwire1 if you know any phone techs slash electriction give them a call they could help u out. 1200-1500 is where you should be the most i ever got with sbc was 1300.
Default send is 32768
I read alot ,computer classes other wiser people on the fourm that were helping me to learn. This field is alot of reading and re reading.:D
