Just wondering how to hide the console once it is loaded and working. I have downloaded the latest no-non-sense console and have it set to load when windows does. Is there a way to hide it now on my task bar?

There's also this I found on overclockers.com.

I haven't tried it personally (I will soon). When I do I'll update the thread. :)

I copy and pasted the instruction in the text file. If you tried it let me know how it works. :)

Thanks for the help guys, and I will give that a try Tawcan. I guess I was just wondering if there was a way to do it without using Daemon Tools.

Yep on the guide you can edit the registry and use some program...I did it before and it worked pretty well.

Just wondering about the non-Console version. Not the screensaver version though. It's the graphical client, and I was just wondering. When it is running in the background it uses 100% of the CPU. If I were to start using the computer for something else, say gaming or something would it throttle back.

Actually while I'm at it I should ask, do all the versions of F@H throttle back when you start doing something else?

Thanks;)

Set to default which is the regular way to run folding it will keep your cpu working at 100%. If a program says it needs 25% of the cpu the folding will drop to using whats left to keep the cpu at 100%. If you game and the game says I need 100% of the cpu time folding will sit idley by until you quit gaming and then start up again.

All versions are set to throttle back as needed. The reason people generally use the no nonsence version is that the graphical (screensaver) version uses cpu cycles to draw all those pretty graphics and many of us hard core folders resent the loss of cpu cycles to draw graphics.

Welcome to the team.

A word of warning, "Folding can become adictive".

No you didn't give me the graphical client link, what you guys gave me was great, my main concern was that I wanted maximum CPU cycles but I didn't want the console to run on the taskbar (In a little window on the taskbar I mean, the Icon to the rigth doesn't bother me).

The reason I was asking about CPU cycles was because I installed the graphical client, but it only shows a graphical interface if you click on the small icon by the system clock. It does what I want it to do though, when windows loads it starts the F@H program but in a minimized state.

So there are three version

1. Graphical Client

2. Screen Saver (which only comes on when the screen saver does and then goes off? I think)

3. No Non-Sense Console, which doesn't minimized and go away without modification.

So I was wondering if the Graphical Client loads when windows starts and is minimized by default, does it complete as many cycles when paired against a machine running the No Non-Sense Console?

Same Procs of course, both in minimized states?

Personally I've never tried the screen saver or the graphical client. Well I tried the graphical client for SETI and learned my lesson cuz it would take like double the time to finish a wu.

If you're serious about f@h you should use the console version.

As far as I have read and heard from other folders.

1. The no-nonsense version just doesn't have a graphical capability and takes up less hard drive space and memory when running.

2. The graphical version if not used in graphical mode is just as fast but takes more hd space and memory even though the graphics are turned off by being minimized, which may slow it down a little.

3. The screen saver version is simular to the graphical version in that if the screen saver is turned off, all it does is take up extra hd space and memory.

In the graphical and screen saver versions I think extra cpu cycles might be taken up checking the code to see if its activated and some code would be used. So that would slow them down from folding over the no-nonsense version.

Tks
Rick
