I'm using ZoneAlarm pro right now but it seems to be blocking gif pictures and it doesn't always filter out ads, not to mention sometimes I do get pop up eventhough pop up destroyer is on. Is there a better firewall program that would also block pop up's?

Maybe I should go with an internet browser other than IE?

Don't like how Sygate doesn't have ad, pop up blocker...

How effect is Outpost Personal Firewall Free version compare to ZoneAlarm and Sygate free version?

Do you want a firewall or an ad blocker?

Anyone compared the performance differences across the board? Looking for one with the LEAST throughput and latency hit, until a high grade router can be put in place.

Sygate for firewall

Google ToolBar for pop-up blocking, the only one I know that works 99% correctly without interfering with legitimate new windows. Easy to allow them if necessary with an on/off button (creates hidden allow list for each site) and no stupid adding of url strings. Also has a cool function to add your name and email etc to forms at the touch of a button. And more..

Must add, google is fully automatic, the on/off button is incase you want to allow pop-ups. New legitimate windows wont be blocked at all (well 99% of them).

Google ToolBar

That's one of my fave apps...since most of us use Google anyways, the toolbar itself is a great little utility just for having the power of Google search in an easy to use spot. The fact that is ALSO blocks pop-ups...heh, icing on the cake! Who needs to download/install buggy 3rd party browsers, or browser skins, when it's all right in the Google toolbar!

Go Sygate is better than Outpost?

Google tool bar blocks ads? Hmmmm didn't know about it. :o

Doesn't Mozilla or some other browers have build in blocker?

This is a great and bug free browser, plus it blocks pop-ups, Flash, images, whatever you want. Also has tabbed browsing. Mostly just a mask for IE. I love it.

Its all a personal opinion try both of them.
Right now Outpost does not offer a 'free' version
of 2.0(only thirty day trial)
Sygate is a very nice firewall as well.:)
But I am bias and I think it rocks better than Sygate
:D :D :D

I want a firewall but I'm not willing to pay for the pro one. :o (Maybe later). So I'm looking for the best "free" firewall. Using Outpost right now.

I'm just paranoid that "free" = bad. :o Different security check seems to be giving me different results (esp Norton... )

How's http://www.pcflank.com in terms of security testing?

Downloaded google toolbar and I think I'm going to stick with it for good. :)

Scroll down to shields up section which is the scanner.
