How to access the Modem through the Wan port and telnet

I have a zyxel 642R as my modem and linksys bfsw411s router for my internet sharing...

Question...

If I connect correctly my modem to the WAN port I CANT access the modem through regular telnet...

My setup on the WAN is like this

Static IP to the WAN port... IP .3, DSL mode IP .1 and router linksys .2

How can I access via telnet the dsl modem??? I connected the modem through a LAN port so I can use the router as an access point..
