Ok On Win9x , It was quite simple to place your virtual mem file wherever you wanted and just point to that file.
On XP and 2000 , I noticed in the screen for changing the size , you don't really have an option to point Windows to it .
IT's either Yes/No there is/not one for C:
or YES/No there is/not one for D: ...
So If I choose no pagefile for C: and set a static size pf 1024 on D: , Does this mean that my OS on C: looks to D for the pagefile Automatically ?
That's how I'm running at the moment and it seems to be running ok so far , but with 1024 Physical mem , I'm not sure how much I use the Virtual mem...
Also if I use the Pagefile Defrag program I notice that I still get lots of 1's all the way down showing i fragment in several area's ... Never seem sto get any better . Is this common ?

In the Virtual Memory dialogue box go to "Paging File Size For Selected Drive" and click on the "No Paing File" option. Then select Drive D from the menu in the upper part of the dailogue box. Then select "Custom Size" and set your minimum and maximum size to 1024 (or whatever), both in the "Paging File Size For Selected Drive" area. Then click "Set". You're all done!
When I use Perfect Disk to analyze the defrag level of my pagefile it never shows more than 1% fragmentation. So I never defrag it. Besides, I don't know if you can defrag the pagefile while Win XP is running.

One more thing, to get to the Virtual Memory settings in Win XP:
Right Click on "My Computer"
Select "Properties"
Select the "Advanced" tab
Select "Settings" in the "Performance" section
Select the "Advanced" tab
Select "Change" in the "Virtual Memory" section
:D
With 1 gig of ram you should experiment with NO page file. I find it makes my system a bit faster. Try it out.

Ok great thats xactly what I had done right before posting :)
Also I'm not so sur eI want to go with NO Virtual mem ... I'm curious how it would speed up your system ... If it doesn't need it , it doens't use it right ? If it doesn't use it then , it should show no performance increase by it not being there .... Or am I wrong ?
I have considered dropping it to 512 though.
I like to eliminate things I don't need/use. I have 768 ram, no vir mem and all is well. Works for me. :)

From my copy of Windows XP Inside Out by Bott & Siechert:
If you have plenty of physical memory installed in your computer, you might be tempted to completely disable your page file. Don't do it! By design, Windows XP requires a page file for a number of core functions, and several third-party programs will cause out-of-memory errors if you try to get rid of all virtual memory. Remember, Windows doesn't actually use the page file until it's needed, so you won't gain any performance advantage by tweaking your system in this fashion.

Is it worth it to put my pagefile on my second partition? I read somewhere in a magazine that it makes a small difference.
Also, with 512 mb whats a good size for it?
Good Lord. Just follow THIS advice.

Heres my question... I am only using one hard drive at the moment with two partitions. Will it make any difference to take my page file OFF the partition with my OS and put it on my documents partition?

Just keep it on your OS partition.
