during the installation of usb adsl modem it asked for win98 cd.
by mistake i clicked the cancel or skip . the istallation failed.
there is no dialer icon in the nertwork dialer folder, there is no
usb modem item in the add & remove program.
there is no uasb modem inthe hardware - device maneger/network
i tryed to reinstall but getting a massege that the modem is already installed.
please adv. how can i un-install the modem?
is there any universal un install program for usb modems?

Win98 right. If there is no modem showing anywhere else and it still sees a modem when trying to install then there is probably still a registry entry pointing to the modem, or referencing it.

Don't do anything to your registry without backing it up (file>export). Every peice of hardware is different so you may have to search in the registry (run>"regedit") under your modems name. Once found right click and delete. There may be more than one key so look around. Don't forget to back the registry up. If you delete something wrong you have a clean registry to restore to.

With Win9X, one trick in helping to better uninstall old hardware no longer installed, or botched new hardware installs, is to boot into safe mode...and hit Device Mangler once in safe mode.

Normal bootup..Device Mangler (<=my term for Device Manager NTW) will only show you what hardware the OS has detected through PnP on it's current boot session. But in safe mode, you're more likely to see hardware that the OS has had installed in the past, that may no longer be physically installed. Can highlight and remove.
