I have used several tweaking utilities to change my MTU. When I go to regedit, the registry entry shows 1492, but when I run the analyzer my MTU reads 1362.

What's going on?

Thanks for helping.

MTU = 1362
MTU is not fully optimized for broadband. Consider increasing your MTU to 1500 for better throughput.
MSS = 1322
MSS is not fully optimized for broadband (although it might work well for slower connections). Consider increasing your MTU value.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 255552
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 2 bits (scale factor of 4)
Unscaled Receive Window = 63888

For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS.
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
507648 (MSS x 48 * scale factor of 8)
253824 (MSS x 48 * scale factor of 4)
126912 (MSS x 48 * scale factor of 2)
63456 (MSS x 48)
bandwidth * delay product:

Your RcvWindow limits you to: 10222.08 kbps (1277.76 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 4088.832 kbps (511.104 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = OFF
Time to live left = 56 hops

TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349) = 00000000

Sorry I didn't provide enough info.

I am running a p4 2.0gig laptop with windows xp.
My dsl service is with dslextreme.com at 1.5/128.
I am connected via a netgear broadband router, wgr614, with the latest firmware. I let the router handle the PPPoE part. The MTU on the router is set to 1492.

Again, the registry entry for my ethernet connection reflects an MTU of 1492, but my actual MTU is only 1362 as shown on the speedguide analyzer.

Please help

Thank you

Try upgrading firmware on router. Also do you have any vpn software installed.

I have 2 computers connected to my broadband router. I am not aware of any vpn software on my computer other than what comes with xp. I also have trouble changing MTU on my other computer.

Would I have any luck changing my driver to RASPPPoE?

Thanks

Most likely, try and see. Read here (http://dslnuts.com/pppoe.shtml) on how to set your MTU properly. Once you do that we can optimize the rest of your settings.
