i have a dsl 1500/256 with router and switch
i try to change mtu but speedguide always says mtuis not fully optimized for broadband - i tested several tools to change mtu but its always the same ...
allthough i can change rwin ...

my main problem is that i have bad lagging@onlinegaming(q3)
quake-netsettings are perfect but there is no way to stop that lagging:( when the ping is constant there is a big lag every half minute to 200-300ms - how do i get the best performance of my connection?
plz can you help me?

TCP options string = 020405780103030201010402
MTU = 1440
MTU is not fully optimized for broadband. Consider increasing your MTU to 1500 for better throughput.
MSS = 1400
MSS is not fully optimized for broadband (although it might work well for slower connections). Consider increasing your MTU value.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 255552
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 2 bits (scale factor of 4)
Unscaled Receive Window = 63888

For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS.
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
515200 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 8)
257600 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 4)
128800 (MSS x 46 * scale factor of 2)
64400 (MSS x 46)
bandwidth * delay product:

Your RcvWindow limits you to: 10222.08 kbps (1277.76 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 4088.832 kbps (511.104 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
Time to live left = 53 hops

TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349) = 00000000

Your RWIN is too high and your MTU is too low. First we need to fix your MTU, it should be 1480, try the following fix from Bob C:

1) Download this file http://www.carricksolutions.com/XP_MTU.reg
2) Right click the file and choose "Merge"
3) Click "Yes"
4) Go to "Start" -> Click on "Run" -> Type in "Regedt32.exe" -> Click "OK"
5) Go to this Reg Key "[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\ Services\NdisWan\ Parameters\Protocols\0]"
6) Double click on "Protocol MTU"
7) Click on "Decimal" -> Enter your desired value (I.E.: Anything less then 1480.) Use hexidecimal value 5c8 (which is 1480).
8) Click "OK"
9) Done!

Also make sure your routers MTU is set properly. Once you set it right we can optimize everything else.

Is it 1 router and 1 switch?? or a combined router+switch??

Also goto my computer control panel network and dialup connections click on configure click on advanced if you see anything that is auto switch too 100 full.

Make sure you are allowing ping to get rhough on the router that will slow u up if u don't. Last but no least make sure you have the latest rimware.

and agnitum outpost firewall if your router has a firewall built in you do not need outpost your doulbe natting being that the packets are taking more filtering steps then they have to. I would get ridd of outpost.

thx for help

its combined - a netgear switch and a zyxel prestige 600 series router (642 i think)

1. the regpatch doesnt work, same as before...
2. i did rwin to 32767

hm still these lagshootings every 60 seconds up to 300ms

i think thats the provider, during the day its really lagging and not playable - i just wanted to loose these lagshootings at night

and... the full throughput of my connection - because no tool works to set the mtu up or down - its always 1440

maybe its the router who gets the information of the provider because i didnt have to install anything when i got my inet - router made everything and i was online when i started the computer
which is the optimal rwin setting for online gaming with mtu 1440?
i looked for some firmware updates at zyxel homepage but didnt find anything

thx for help

You will have to set ur mtu thourgh ur router.

http://www.zyxel.com/support/knowledgebase2_1.php?indexFlagvalue=1021688036&level=3&upFlag=1021682046&search=mtu

http://www.us.zyxel.com/support/download.php click on identfy ur router right back on the type.
