hey guys I need to check the playability of this game on a certain PC ....

The PC is a Sony PCV-RX860 , and I can't find any specs on the Sony website about it ... It's dad's PC and he just bought the game ...

As far as I can tell here is the best info I can get on the PC

2.4 Ghz P4
160 Gig HD
480 Megs DDR Ram ( WTF ? )
Video Card is only listed as a Sis ###-###-#### ( Onboard maybe ?) It says it's using PCI,1 but he won't let me pull the PC out of the Desk to look at the back ...

I noticed the game specs have a Direct X9.0 Video card listed as minimum ....

IS this right ? Does that mean only an ATI 9600 PRo or better Vid Card will run it effectively ?
OR does it mean you just have to have dx9 installed ? Do older vid cards emulate dx9 in someway through software ?

I think it needs direct x 9 to run the game but doesn't necesaarily need a direct x9 + card such as radeon or geforce cards to run it.

From the specs, I might actually go and think that it might be onboard graphics. Sony prebuilt systems are a pain in the butt and very ... well... bad... from experience...

So you think it would run ok on his system ?

if it doesnt run, slide out and pick him up a used radeon8500 or something like that.

that will certainly play the game and many others, plus make it look good.

I believe the 9000 is actually rated below the radeon 8500.

according to a recent post by brent, with the newer drivers a 8500 actually will outperform a gf4 ti4200.

An 8500 at regular 8500 speeds 275/275 will beat a TI 4200, plus it supports PS 1.4 where as the Ti 4200 only supports PS 1.1

An 8500LE 250/250 or LELE (OEM) 230/230 is a bit more iffy, if you can overclock it it is worth it

The 8500 in any form is faster than a 9000 though

if you can get a regular 8500 or an 8500LE that is a great card

but actually what is even better is like a 9500 non pro, newegg has a saphire 64mb 9500 non pro for $99 or a 128MB 9600 non pro for $113, depends how much you wanna spend

As for Mytflyguy's original question it sounds like that PC has a POS SiS integrated chip in it, that is very very bad to put it politely, heh

FS 2004 DOES require DX9 to be installed, it won't run unless you have MS's DirectX 9.0b installed, so install it.

I have no idea if the game will run on that SiS chip though, and if it does I have no idea how bad it will be, I just know it will be pretty darned bad in IQ and Performance if it does run.

Like Brent said even if that game runs on that card it will be horrid. Hell I'm only getting at best 15-20fps in single player somewhere around 25-30 in multi since there aren't as many planes flying around and stuff in Multi as there are in single.

Granted I don't have the fastest CPU in the world a Dually 1800+ AMD MP's. For video I have a Radeon 9700Pro. So...

This is kinda off topic, but I found out that people that have FS2003 (or any earlier version) can also fly online with anyone that has FS2004. :) Just wanted to let anyone know who would be interested. :)

Every other year the only exception being FS95 then FS98, 2000, 2002, and now 2004.

Nothing before 95 is worth mentioning.

I mentioned nothing of a virtual girl

FS stands for Flight Sim, and I've played it since that version 5 in DOS up to 2004
