View Full Version : Can't install Max Payne 2
When I hit the "something B.ras" file halfway through CD 1, I get a fatal error that stops the install:

I know it's something to do with the damned SATA drive, because I've gotten the "Cyclic Redundancy Check" error crap before during a Windows clean install, but eventually it worked. But with this it doesn't ever complete the install, no matter what. I've even turned off S.M.A.R.T. and I get the same thing. Only happens when installing Max Payne 2.
I've tried IsoBuster to no avail, as well as checking the CD. It's in perfect physical shape. I also blew out the drive, checked cables, even installed Elite Force 2 and had no problems.
I'm ****ing pissed off.
Duh. I found the error at Take2's website, and it says to disable DMA on my CD-ROM drive. But there is no check box for "Enable DMA."
How do I disable it then?
This ****ing simultaneous PATA SATA crap is ridiculous. There're four IDE entries in the Device Manager...oh just **** it. The game is just not worth the time.
Found a way to disable it, still doesn't work. Switched to Secondary IDE, nothing.
**** it.

I assume that you tried making ISO's and then mounting and installing from them, but thought I'd mention it jsut in case.
good luck

Yeah. Tried everything. I even got a friend's copy and tried it. No go. I disabled DMA like their support says to and still nothing. Ah well.
Maybe making an image copy of it and running it from a virtual drive? Dunno...

Tried that, too. It gives me an error about not being able to continue. If I try from the CD, it works normally until it hits the original error.

now that's really odd.. I'll probably break the cd by now since you can't return it now that u've opened it... stupid rule...
Have you tried to copy all the files from both cds into the hard drive and then install it?
Shot in the dark...updated my drive's firmware and presto!

It's pretty much like the first, but the graphics are WAY better, as is the "ragdolling" of enemies when you shoot them.
I have everything CRANKED to the max and it runs flawlessly.
