We're looking for a router to

-- connect our 2 xp-pro's thru the comcast cable modem
-- capable of supporting VPN to connect one of the xp-pro's to my office network (regular office stuff, plus unix telnet, FTP, SNMP)
-- needs to be able to support a gamer - Counter-strike -- on the non-VPN pc

-- capable of handling wireless, for when I get that laptop - xp-pro(christmas?)
-- wireless connection also capable of connecting via VPN

What do you suggest?
What things should I look for/avoid?
Any tips on the VPN part of this requirement?

Thanks

Just about any brand has a product that will allow what you're looking for...my question first is what do you use to VPN to your office? If you find a router that you like, that doesn't have wireless, you can add an access point to it after x-mas to bring wireless functionality to your network. Most routers like Linksys BEFSX41 and D-Link routers allow VPN passthrough so you can run a VPN client through the router with no problems. For around 75 bucks...I've found great compatibility with that Linky BEFSX41. Stack one of their G wireless access points on it down the road.

Moving up a notch in quality to midrange, products from Symantec, such as their model 100 router (previously made by Nexland).

Up from there...into higher end, products from Netopia, and Sonicwall, but you're paying upwards of several hundred dollars just to start.
