Ok, so this Hurricane came, I unplugged everything from my PC. We lost power for about 5 days or so and I plugged everything back up and turned on my surg protector.

My router is not working at all, I tried unpluging it with my cable modem and turn one on first than the other. Nothing at all, I cant even to go my router config page.

http://192.168.1.1 (dont work) everything is hooked up correctly.

Is there a proper way on to powering things on that I should try?

Define what makes you think it's dead.

Do any lights come on?
If so, can you get to the web admin page?
If so...it's just not obtaining a WAN IP?

Have you tried hitting the hard reset button?

Sometimes, if it lights up but doesn't respond..you can reflash them with the latest firmware...assign your workstation a fixed IP like 192.168.1.11,255.255.255.0 that's all...and force up a fresh firmware.

You don't have to hide that IP address...169.254.XXX.XXX....it's a default Windows IP when a machine cannot find a DHCP server upon bootup. Any machine will assign itself that IP when it's TCP is set to obtain from a DHCP server, and cannot find one.

Since you can get to your router now, and it's web admin page...I'd consider flashing your firmware with the latest, and making sure the routers DHCP service is enabled. Although having static LAN IP's is fine...and you may find it faster. But for some reason, it appears something went screwy with the router...as it's not assigning IP's. Is wan management enabled? Did you change your default router password?

WAN management (different from your WAN Port setting...PPPoE, Obtain Auto, RAS, etc) means you can enable the web based management of your router (which is DISabled by default...which is good) so that you can access it from the internet. It's the same interface you use from your intranet. In other words...if I'm at my office, and one of my clients needs help doing something with the router, like setting up PcAnywhere...I can either walk them through the steps (which might not always be easy depending upon who that person is)...or....walk them through turning on the WAN management...and telling me their WAN IP address. Then...I can log onto their router from my office....using the web based management...and do my stuff. Obviously having this ENabled by default would be bad...because anyone can log onto your router if they know you have one...and mess with it (DMZ a computer, play with port forwarding, change your router password, disable DHCP...etc etc).

That's why I asked if WAN management was enabled...because for some reason the routers DHCP service seems to have been turned off, or for some reason...stopped.

Linksys routers are probably the most common router out there...and everybody knows that simple admin password...which is why you should change it..especially if you have WAN management turned on.
