View Full Version : 802.11g speeds slow
i have a dell notebook with a built in 802.11g adapter. when sending data to another server (via access point hooked up to wired router), i get about 15-20mbps (which is nice and fast from 30' and two walls away). downloading tops at about 10mbps for me. why the difference?

fragmentation on your hdd? Could also be anything going on over on the server side. Running a firewall? A/V?
There's not really much to go on. The protocol itself does not affect the speed in one direction vs. another.
all of the pcs have norton antivirus, but then it should ideally be equally slow or fast shouldn't it? susatining 2MB/sec should not be a problem on a 7200rpm 80gb drive on a p4 1.8 nor on a 40gb 5400rpm notebook drive and a 2.2ghz mobile processor.
