Dave's World and I went fishing early this morning. We went for flounder and fluke. Not much luck in the morning except a huge porgi I caught (and let go..I'm not fond of them). Went here and there for a few spots. Saw some seals going after blue fish schools which were going after the small frye. One surfaced right by Dave...popping his cute head up for a looksie. Then the wind died down nicely, and I figure on trying out the middle of the sound, which is normally too rough for my boat.

So we head out there...and see the water absolutely boiling from tuna chasing small frye to the surface...simply tons and tons of tuna jumping totally clear out of the water chasing dinner around.

So we're sitting there with light gear for flounder/fluke...8 pound test line. But we couldn't resist, changing from hooks with fresh sand eels...to some casting jigs Dave had (forget which ones...some bass ones from Maine since he mostly fresh water fishes).

We zip around following the schools of tuna...trying to get the boat in front of their fast moving schools.....getting some casts out in front of them. No luck for quite some time...Dave changes to some other lure...first cast...BAM...hit. Now he's a fresh water fisherman, only been salt water a couple of times. Anyone who's fished....tune give one_heck_of_a_fight, all pure power. So he clambers up on the bow of my little ski boat, and we proceed to gently try to tire the fish out. Let him take line, gun the boat in zig zags taking up slack, then he dives, or takes off behind us, or another direction. 45 minutes of zig zag, reverse, gun it, left, right...I was worrying about running out of gas in the middle of the sound. 45 minutes! Gets close, then dives, we traveled a couple of miles around the sound. Guys in big bucks fishing boats must have gotten a chuckle, see two guys with light gear in this little Baja ski boat with a rod bent over hard...being pulled around the sound.

Anyways, finally bagged it. Just got done eating my share of it...did cajun pan blackened style with fresh wasabi. Mmmm...good.

Anyways, here's a nice congrats to Dave to an increbile job bringing in this tuna on gear that normally would have snapped...I mean look at this fish...brought in on an 8 pound test line. Poor guys arms/wrists are gonna be hurting something terrible tonight.

what an awesome day, probably the biggest fish I ever caught. I still can't believe the tuna didn't snap the line, I mean this fish was pulling out lots of line each time it dove to the bottom. I played with the reel's drag for 45 minutes. My arms and wrists are still spent right now as I type this. Time to get some heavier gear. Thanks again Captain Cat............

Yeah, I believe they are. Or share the title with Baraccuda. I think 'cuda are fastest accelerating, but tuna have overall speed and stamina.

Good eats...heck yeah. Esp raw with wasabi! :D

heck yeah that looks good. haven;t done any worthwhile fishing in a long time. mostly freshwater fish when i was younger.

and i thought the marlin or swordfish was the fastest? i know tuna and 'cuda are also really fast swimmers also.

come to think of it, i don't know what the hell i am talking about :p .

Fishing is great fun! I live inland, as you know, and I often dream at night about fishing....I guess it's my little escape.

Nice job, Dave's World! Glad you two enjoyed the fruits of your labor. ;)
