hi,
I faced problem of download speed slow down after install linksys BEFSX41 router. Sometime, it just be idle after download 30-50%. It works fine if I connect my DSL modem to my pc directly. I have try many setting mentioned in forum, but seem not to work. Any ideas? BTW, I am running in WinXP machine

Also, when I try speed test, the test may may just idle sometime.

Here is my analyzer result:

TCP options string = 020405a001010402
MTU = 1480
MTU is optimized for Windows XP PPoE DSL broadband. If not, consider raising MTU to 1500 for optimal throughput.
MSS = 1440
MSS is optimized for Windows XP PPPoE DSL broadband. If not, consider raising MTU to 1500 for maximum throughput.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 37960
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 37960

For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS.
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
506880 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
253440 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
126720 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
63360 (MSS x 44)
bandwidth * delay product:

Your RcvWindow limits you to: 1518.4 kbps (189.8 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 607.36 kbps (75.92 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
Time to live left = 53 hops

TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349) = 01011010

Precedence (priority) = 010 (immediate)
Delay = 1 (low delay)
Throughput = 1 (high throughput)
Reliability = 0 (normal reliability)
Cost = 1 (low cost)

PPPoE DSL, 1492 is fine. Can try flipping it to auto, see if it can negotiate anything better with your ISP.

Is your workstation set with anything else along the lines of tweaks?

What is your NIC set to? Although that shouldn't make any difference.

When you use the router, you're using another patch cable...is that patch cable a good, new one?

Did you uninstall your PPPoE software on your computer when moving to the router?

Hi,
>>PPPoE DSL, 1492 is fine. Can try flipping it to auto, see if it can negotiate anything better with your ISP.

It is the same if set to auto

>>Is your workstation set with anything else along the lines of tweaks?
no, I tried to use TCP optimizer to get better optimal MTU, however, ping request alwat timeout.

>>What is your NIC set to? Although that shouldn't make any difference.
Ever tried 100 full and auto

New cable, and tested using soe equipment.

Before this, I use winxp built in PPPoE to connect. Now, it is disabled. And used to delete it b4.

Any ideas?

The download speed can up to >100K at the beginning, and then 80K, 60K.. .. 5K and then idle......

Well I have the same EXACT router that you do. If anything my downloads are the same or FASTER. I do notice that if I set the MTU to auto it does run a little faster.

Also, did you upgrade your firmware on the router?
That COULD help, but mine ran fine even before I upgraded the firmware.

Goto 192.168.1.1 click on advanced look for block wan request you want that disabled. With out ping comming in it could be why you are timming out. Also do you have manual ips set??
