Hi Folks,
I am on Roadrunner cable and usually stay logged into AOL all day. This had been working fine until I added a second computer and an "older" MultiTech RouteFinder router. Now the connection closes intermittently causing me to lose my AOL login. I'm wondering if this is a router problem in which case I'll just buy another one. We had this router at work and it did the same thing on a DSL line. Is this characteristic of a shared connection with AOL or just particular to this router?

Sorry if this question is elementary but this is my first attempt at networking. I really do appreciate any help I can get. If the router has to go which one would be a good purchase?

Thanks alot for the help!
Marc

I don't know much about your router and have voluntarily forgotten everything I knew about AOL. :D But here's a link to the router's manual:

http://www.multitech.com/DOCUMENTS/Collateral/manuals/S000235E.pdf

Make sure you read the section on configuration and the web interface. Those are always fun to play around with.

When you're kicked off AOL, are you still able to access web pages through Internet Explorer? Also give me a little more info about your setup, i.e. operating system on the problem computer, any hubs or switches you may have, etc.

If you would like a new router, I would recommend anything by Linksys or Netgear. If you're a security buff, get one with stateful packet inspection. I don't remember the model #'s, but I know both companies make 1 with 4 and 8 ports. Although, after reading bits of the manual, yours sounds top notch!

Thank you for the reply. I went and got a Linksys router and so far so good. I stayed logged in all night and I'm still logged in this morning. We'll see what happens during the day. If I have more problems I'll post again.

Thanks again,
Marc
