I have a laptop with Win2000 Professional and I'm trying to connect it to a network through a hub. There are 3 other computers on the hub and a broadband modem. 2 of the computers have Win XP on and have no problems. The other computer has Win 2000 aswell and can access the internet. No matter what I seem to try I can't get my laptop to get onto the internet! My laptop can't even see the other computers on the network (if I search for the other Win 2000 PC I find it, but that is all). The Win 2000 PC's can't see the WIN XP PC's and the WIN XP PC's can see the Win 2000 PC's either. Help!
I managed to get as far as to get my laptop to access the broadband modem's setting page (using the browser with address 10.0.0.2) but that is all. :(

you need to be sure your getting enough ip's from your service provider on your cable modem.

check to see if all your machines are pulling ip's at the same time.

to check you ip.........

go to >start>run ....then type "cmd" (without the quotes)......
this will give you a command prompt

in the command prompt ....type "ipconfig"

make sure your NOT getting a 172.x.x.x address.

then lets take things from there.

if your not getting enough ip's then consider getting a gateway router. it will allow many pc's to connect to the net using 1 ip from your provider.

hope this helps ya some

How many concurrent connections/IP's does your account with your ISP have?

Suggestion...get a router. Direct connections to the internet like that...you're asking for trouble in the form of hacking and worms.

Thanks guys, got it sorted in the end. I had to set up the DNS server manually. For some reason it would not set up automatically and being an amateur I didn't knowhow to find the dns server address!:D
