Hey,
I just got XP and was trying to tweak my Registry settings, i changed my MTU to 1492 but when i open the Analyser page it keeps saying my MTU is 1500, Anyone know why?
TCP options string = 020405b401010402
MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.
MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which equals MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 17280
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 17280

For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS.
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)
bandwidth * delay product:

Your RcvWindow limits you to: 691.2 kbps (86.4 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 276.48 kbps (34.56 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
Consider increasing your RWIN value to optimize TCP/IP for broadband.
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
Time to live left = 50 hops

TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349) = 01011100

Precedence (priority) = 100 (flash override)
Delay = 1 (low delay)
Throughput = 1 (high throughput)
Reliability = 0 (normal reliability)
Cost = 1 (low cost)

p.s, whats a good tweak for a 512KB PPPoA connection...

You want an MTU of 1500, not 1492. 1492 is for PPPoE connections, and you have PPPoA.

What are your download and upload caps?

lol....My ISP are morons...I have no caps on upload, as far as i know...i had like a 2mb upload and a 512k DL when i tried a speed test :S...as far as PPPoE and PPPoA are concerned When i use a MTU of 1500 my packets are fragmented...so i use 1942...But how come the analyser isn't showing the MTU as 1942? is that something wrong with my IE or is My Registry not saving the tweaks...

Right...brace urself...
I'm stuck in the middle east as a result of work, unfortunately Internet is a reiltivly new concept over here...along with fire, and the wheel...this means that there is only 1 ISP, This means due to lack of competition, I get high prices and a ****e connection...let me break it down...
for a 256kbps line i'm paying $160 a month with this line i get a ping of 200 when playing online games....provided i dont get re-routed through tokyo which happens 45% of the times when i try to connect to a US/UK server.
