Hi,
I recently visited grc.com and ran the shields-up check.
I was pretty much in total stealth mode except that I responded
to an ICMP Ping request.
I have a Nexland ISB soho as a Firewall/Router.
Does anyone know how to stop it responding to a ping request
and thus give me an otherwise unblemished "Stealth" status?
Thanks

Hi rocahopo
I would suggest that you go into the router's web interface and enter the "EXPERT" level.
There you will see "Advanced Features" and "Allow IDENT Port"..Enable or Disable. There is a note there explaining what it does with Port 113.
Hope that helps
Cheers

Fredra,
Thanks for the tip, but unfortunately It was already disabled.
Enabling it move port 133 from stealth to closed status.
My router in bothe cases still responds to the ping request.
Thanks

point port 113 to a static i.p. address thats not used on your network. For example, if your computer has a address of 192.168.1.5 make the router "port forward" 113 to 192.168.1.6
Here is some more info on port 113 on GRC.com The same
info is half way down the article.

Hope it helps.

Nexland have confrimed that it is not possible to control the ISB SOHO to NOT respond to and ICMP Ping Request.
What a shame for an otherwise excellent Router/Firewall

Up until I tested my Nexland ISB SOHO, now Symantec, with ShieldUp at grc.com, I was very happy with.
It failed by responding to a ping request, otherwise it was clean.
The ISB SOHO has no options to control this feature, nor did Nexland give any reasonable support, other than no luck cant do.
OK, Tough.
Then I recently decided to by a wireless router, DLINK DI-514, at a very nice price.
To my surprise, not only is it an excellent router, great wireless range, but I can also control the ping response (and so much more). I now have a completely stealth rating at grc.com
Well done to DLINK for the DI-514, and one in the eye for Nexland ISB Soho which is now consigned to the scrap heap.
