I'd use scandisk and see if reports errors with free space.

Scan Disk comes up clean...
System restore...maybe anyway to check it?
Right turn definitely :rotfl:
You could delete the _restore dir using a 98 bootdisk.
I bet it's taking up a lot of drive space.
When WinME screws up, it REALLY screws up.
WinME is the strangest beast I've ever dealt with. I spent a few hours fixing and setting up everything just perfect, and after a reboot or 2, EVERYTHING was back to square one. Oddest thing I ever saw.
I was pissed. Then proceeded to wipe out the partition, made a new one, and format/reinstalledwindows. Then after setting it up perfect, I made the client a automated restore CD, for free.
Mininmum charge to work on a WinME machine should be a weeks pay at triple the normal hourly rate.

I agree 100%. Normally I wouldnt even work on ME except its for a "friend" which means also I aint makin no money:cry:
Ill try deleting the restore dir and see what happens.....afterall its ME aint like I can screw it up worse *lol*
It's hidden, so you will have to use the attrib command for dos to see it. And since it's so big a dir, you better use smartdrv as well.
I believe you know all this, but if you need help, just post.

Could it be the swap file? If windows was managing the virtual memory, would the swap file grow to fill up the empty space if it needed it?

I'd say basically since the file is technically still there, it's still taking up HD space. Even tho they were deleted, they are still on the HD but marked to be written over. Best thing to do if you have enough space or another HD on the system is install a program that will actually delete the files. (NAV 2003 does)
