I thought that "windowsupdate.microsoft.com" was supose to be the new page to get updates. I go there, it's says that users should download the "msblaster patch" (i already did that.)
There is a "new" update to I.E. 6 and also MDAC, They are only offering these patchs from the "windowsupdate.microsoft.com" page.
Ahhhh!!!!
Let me know if you can get there and download.
Thanks,
Shinobi

That didn't help me, thanks anyway.
I can get to the Windows Update page, I have no problems with that.
When I press the "scan for updates" button, the page tells me that there is a error and I have to contact Microsoft..
The error page isn't a generic page either...
I just went to the update page and had no problems either. D/loaded the updates that were there and they're installing now on the laptop.
The Blaster recommendation was there but it has been fixed already.
Maybe there is an identification problem between your system and the update site.
Post the address of the page that comes up so we can check it out.
Croc.
Hi Shinobi
I read your message and went into the update page, with no difficulty.
So I have to ask you a few questions, in trying to help.
*Did you go into windowsupdate last week and it worked?
*Has this problem always happened, or is it a recent thing?
*What is your OS?
Let us know, so we can TRY to provide some assistance.
In the meantime, go
here (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/search.aspx?displaylang=en&categoryid=7) to get any recent updates.
Or go
here (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/TechNet/security/current.asp)
You can also get information on Windowsupdate troubleshooting here (http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/)

I don't have the blaster worm, patch was already installed also.
Windows XP Pro is what I am running on this box.
before the patch everything was fine.
I get this error now, when I try to scan for updates at:
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

Hi Shinobi
Did you check the troubleshooting page I suggested?
Yep, I did go. At least the error number that I am getting is in reference to a SSL problem. I tried al the suggestions on that happy microsoft page, but none of the info fixed my problem.
Any other ideas?
Thanks for trying to help me out.
;) :D :)

Yep, I tried that. Good thinking though. The only thing that I
can think of, is that if SSL works with "certificatates" in I.E. maybe one of the certificates is blown? I'm drawing at straws here. I even try to go the DMZ of my router, thinking that, was holding things up but nope.
I might have to do a "re-install" on internet explorer 6.0 ,
I going the have to go into the registry and do some wing-ing around..... I might just give up and just do the patch manually like a lot of people still do...
Any other ideas, anyone?
Thanks all for trying to help me out.

Windows uses a file on your drive called somthing like winupdito.* or somthing close to that in 98. I am uncertain of where it is at or its true name in 2000 (and I have never really used XP,) but In the system32 folder there is a file called wupdmgr.exe and wupdinfo.dll. May be the same with XP.
Guess I could look at your profile to see if what you use is posted;) Anyway, the update page checks for the correct version of this file ( I believe it is these or one of them) when you first bring it up and updates it if wrong or missing. When I get home from work I may play with renameing and see If I get a replacement from the big M. Also stored in system32\dllcache\:D
Hi Shinobi
Before you do any adventures.....
Try this
Go to msn.com and close to the bottom of the page you will see the windows update. Use that to do all your updates, then we can try to get to the bottom of the problem.
Let us know if that works

O.K, fredra.. I went to MSN.COM , clicked on "Windows Update" URL and I get to the Windows Update page at URL "http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp"
Same thing as I mention above, it shows the page and the "warning of the msblaster worm. I click "scan for updates" the scan does two "clicks" goesto 100% then gives me the same error as I mention above in this same post.
I have updated regularly up to this point. The last update was the msblaster / RPC one. I have tried everything on that "troubleshooting page" that you sent me, still no go.
Thanks for anything else that you can suggest.

Set your system clock correctly - at least that's what MS suggests that error code to mean.
