Ok i discover this whenever I play quake3, no matter whcih mod
Here is what happens:
When I move on any map, there are certain points on the map that I WILL ALWAYS see Connection Interrupted, and lag for a second. This is no matter what. I can always recreate it by going to same spot.
Also I notice as I get closer to walls it happens a lot more frequently.
I know it is not my cable connection since everything is fine, and I am not really losing connection.
I was playing at 1600x1200, I decided to lower resolution to 1024x768 and it acutally gets worse
Right now i am on a my new machine, P4 2.8c, Radeon pro 9800 128, catalyst 3.6 drivers, XP Pro
any ideas?
I tried it on my older machine right next to it, a P3 866, gf3ti500, nvidia 44.09 drivers, XP Pro, and it worked perfectly fine, so I know it is not a router, or cable issue.

I would try adjusting your game rate (connection type in setup)...play around with different ones. I haven't played Q3 in jeeeze....long long time, haven't had it installed on my past several gaming systems, but I do remember all the Quake series games...too fast of a system demanded too many updates from the server...and would occasionally lag. I remember there used to be a utility in Q2, Netstat or something...you could pull up a bar graph while playing, and adjust your rate at the console...see changes in performance happen right away.
I forget how...way too long ago, but may want to try setting a max FPS in the game....like 60, or even 40.

That the thing I am not really lagging network wise,
in fact most times i never even feel like i lost anything, it just pops up constantly.
I wonder if it is that maxfps per second, because I know I am getting over 240 fps even at 1600x1200, maybe that is the issues it is going to fast for its own good.
I will give that a shot thanks

I remember the same thing distinctly in Quake 1 when the Voodoo cards came out, and Voodoo 2 cards....SLI mode especially. Each frame you draw will request an update from the server. More frames per second translate to more updates per second from the server....so as you can see it can bog down your connection. Quake 1 was more server side driven than the newer versions, so it was very apparent...many people (who had screaming systems) had to put a maxfps statement in the autoexec.cfg files just to keep the game playable.
Quake 2 was better...but still had some of the above.
Quake 3 I used to play at max resolution on a halfway decent system, so didn't have those effects much...but I'm just thinking your system is sooooo screaming, it's really exaggerated playing such an old game as Q3.

I'll help you solve that problem, I'll kindly take your new pc or even just the video card.
Hey, what are friends for eh?

try these settings in the console:
/rate 25000
/cl_maxpackets 100
/snaps 40

you need to cap your fps...when i uncapp mine and get a bazillion fps online i lag like a mofo...cap it at 125 and you should be fine.
I would think that when you dropped the res and it got worse is an indication that your maxfps is set to high.

tried doing that in console by typing
/set maxfps 125
how do i do that in an autoexc.cfg file?
maybe i am doing it wrong?

Ghosthunter, type in "/com_maxfps 125"in the console
