Not on your average home broadband routers. A few models support quality of services...for specific protocols, but not bandwidth per switched port.

:D QoS... agree
OTOH kind of ersatz ... one can find on routers below:

BEFSR81 Linksys
router 1*WAN; 8*LAN http://www.linksys.com/products/product.asp?grid=34&prid=155 ... Quality of Service capabilities ... (QoS on 4 from 8 LAN)

XRT-402C Planet
router 2*WAN; 4*LAN http://www.planet.com.tw/news/productnews/XRT-402C.htm ... Multi-homing, Load balance, backup links & QoS ...

You have a Linksys with a built in switch so it should evenly distribute the bandwith, a hub does not. If you are the only one using it you'll get 100%, if you and your brother are using it, you should both see 50%, 3 users, 33% each, etc.

than
... the router i got is the one on the first link ...

:2cool: by the first you MUST trust your admin hehehe.
& remember about golden law

hmmm OTOH&BTW&IMVHO it means ONLY from educational reasons
so if you wish ... Linksys BEFSR81 QoS options are limited
& the latest firmware is strongly recomended

one can find - priority options: high|low on LAN 1-4
(but LAN 5-8 no options - mean only low prioryty)
> can compare speed in both kind of LANs
than
eg settings for LAN high priority - PRIVILEGED pc
>>> high priority: www, smtp i pop3 & yourLAN
>>> low priority: rest LANs; port 1214 (for Kaza); ftp

after router settings again - is it work or not.
check speed on PCs - with acttivity on both LAN
on first LAN - yours PRIVILEGED pc
& eg second LAN - for deficientPC (Kaza) hehehe
IMVHO better do not inform regretted...
but choose the best LAN for his proposal ...

... with ealier firmware you can find
Review Date: 10/11/2000 ... the QoS or SNMP features unless you're prepared to go it alone.

I'll just give my version of a simple answer...

No, your brother can't limit it... not with that router anyways.

:confused: unknown use(fu)l(n)ess (choose ?) ? ... can ask customers? (not me)
but looks QoS so nice in Linksys BEFSR81

Linksys BEFSR81 http://www.practicallynetworked.com.../rimages/linksy1.gif QoS avaiable options
BEFSR81setup http://192.168.1.1/QoS.htm

above the line - simplifyA

in spite of lack of PL fonts one can try hehehe

so options

QoS > Enable | Disable
{but LAN 5-8 no priority options - means only low prioryty if QoS enable}

Application-based QoS
{below ^items options: > High priority | Low priority | Disable}
^FTP >
^HTTP >
^Telnet >
^SMTP >
^POP3 >
^Specyfic port # [ ]
^Specyfic port # [ ]
^Specyfic port # [ ]

Port-based QoS
{below ^^items options: > High priority | Low priority | Disable}
^^LAN Port 1
^^{LAN Port}2
^^{LAN Port}3
