View Full Version : Question about my new router.
My d-link that I was using for a couple of years died this week, so I got me a new one. I got a U.S. Robotics 8003. I got it up and running but I am having 1 problem. This router disconnects me from my DSL about everyday. I have to reboot it to reconnect. My old router would only disconnect every few months. Does anyone else have this router and this problem, and does anyone know of a solution for this issue.

I haven't used a USR router in a long time, found their interface somewhat clunky and bland. Only thing I can think of
1) Latest firmware
2) Most routers now support, with PPPoE, a checkbox choice of either:
a) Connect on Demand
b) Maintain connection/Keep alive.
Do you have that option?
Thanks for the help. I already have it set for pppoe w/ auto reconnect. I will try to upgrade the firmware and see if that helps.
Oh well I checked here (http://www.usr.com/support/product-template.asp?prod=8003) and it says that my router does not require firmware.

Huh....they don't have firmware downloads available. Odd, most other router makers have somewhat frequent firmware updates.
Yet if you look on the help section screenshots...it shows a firmware version 1.01 01
Hmmm...how about contacting their support? I've had good experiences with USR support on their modems and NICs.
I sent the tech support an e-mail. We will see what happens. Again thanks for the help.

These gizmos do not deserve to be bothered with any more; they become the dentition of what it means NO QA.
In general this type hardware is not bad, but the number of defected units that slips the so called “QA” within each brand is staggering.
If you set it correctly, and it does not work return it.
You can find similar Routers as low as $10.
Example: Link: Belkin 4 Port Cable/DSL Gateway Router. $9.99 (after rebate)] (http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0151876)
Yeah if I don't get a response from them soon I will take it back. I am actually going to Frys right now to look at other models.
