Any suggestions?

I have a LinkSys WRT54G Wireless router, it has two rubber antennas on the back. Why two antennas? Is one for transmit and the other for receive?

I have very poor range in my home from the WRT54G to my laptop using the LinkSys WPC54G Wireless-G Notebook Adabter. Usually can only get one room away, maybe 40-50 feet.

I am thinking about ordering a third-party, replacement antennas for the AP. Any good suggestions?

I would like to stay a rubber, omni directional antenna that will connect to the back of the AP, maybe just a higher gain antenna.

Thanks,,,,

40 - 50 feet...hmmm, I'd play around with the location of the router, and the position of it's antennas. I've setup their G routers before, and was quite impressed at their performance for a little Linksys. Is the router located up high?

how about the antennas? why two instead of one like I have seen on some other wireless routers?

The two Antennae are the same; such a combination creates a transmission pattern that can improve the reception on the client side.

The default Antennae on most entry level wireless is 2.2dbm. Installing 6dbm antennae may improve the transmission.

Good source for external antennae.

If you do not find it on the site call them, they are decent people, and you can talk to a real tech. person.
