i'm going to set up a wireless network using a wireless broadband router and my notebook to share the connection.

question:

does the main computer that the router is connected to have to be on in order for me to get an internet connection on my notebook.

reason i'm asking, the main computer will be in my brothers room and he doesnt like the computer on at nite while i'll be in my room with the notebook.

i thought it would have to be like that, but to my surprise any computer could connect to the internet even if no other ones were on. should work.

100% true.

my main rig's been down and I can still use wireless lappy.

you dont need anything to be on and the router is fine. By default, it does have a idle timer though.

As you can see the computers are independently connected to the Router.
