why not build one out of an old computer p-75 or better.
instead of throwing them out recycle them.
I use FREESCO on an old p-90 downclocked to 75 (no heat)
been using it for three years noprobs.
plus it can do more then just routing if you want..

not a bad idea at all. Only question I have about that is what would you recommend for a good firewall to run to filter out the crap? Or some kind of port redirection software maybe?

Thanks, guys. I've got freesco running @ work to play with, also messed with Shorewall a bit; this is for one of my friend's parents, so simple is better.

Shaggy, I believe that would work. Any idea on price?

FREESCO is a one floppy disk router all you need is a slow pentium box, once you got it setup you can uplug the monitor and do all the admin through its web interface.
you dont even need a harddrive in it, just a floppy, 2 or more nics and 16 megs ram. and yes there are packages you can add to handle filtering. you can even filter some stuff with the stock install. Go to http://www.freesco.org to find out more.
