network n00b, so you will have to excuse me...

my current setup:

laptop (named pdango, using win2k, host, ics enabled)
client enabled
netbios enabled
second netbios (ipx etc) enabled
tcp/ip enabled
netbeui enabled
connetion being shared in a wireless one through a linksys card

using a crossover cable, it is connected to:

pc (named aesercos, using winxp, client)
client enabled
file and printer sharing enabled
QoS enabled
netbios enabled
second netbios enabled
tcp/ip enabled
ip/dns obtained automatically

both of them are in the same workgroup (WORKGROUP)

the computers don't want to see each other, much less share the internet for some reason. however, i have no "cable unplugged"...or etc. warnings.

any ideas?

thanks

This is a simple way to set it up. Some of what i suggest with protocols is subjective, but the following is the easiest way.

Disable all protocols except TCP/IP.
On the host (the one with the internet gateway), right click the connection, go to advanced and select "allow other computers to access........"

On the client pc, make sure the TCP/IP protocol is set to automaticall obtain ip address (DCHP).
Check the IP setting by going to a command prompt and typing IPCONFIG. the ip address should read 192.168.1.x
If so all should work.

Hope this helps,
OJ
