Here is my computer/ISP info:
1. What type of connection do you have? i.e. 56K, ISDN, DSL (PPPoE or not), Cable etc.=Cable Modem

2. Who is your ISP and what is your advertised speed from them? i.e. Cox.net & 3000/256 - this is advertised in kilobits per second.
=Comcast Cable not sure what the advertise speed is they told me above t1 speeds.
3. What are your current settings now? Do a TCP/IP Analyzer test and copy and paste the results (remember to XXXXX out your IP address) here.
=TCP properties for IP = xx.xxx.x.xxx ()
Browser/OS = Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows XP Pro)
Notes: Read the Analyzer FAQ if the above is not your IP address.

TCP options string = 020405b401010402
MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.
MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which equals MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 17520
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 17520

RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
64240 (MSS x 44)
bandwidth * delay product:

Your RcvWindow limits you to: 700.8 kbps (87.6 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 280.32 kbps (35.04 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
Consider increasing your RWIN value to optimize TCP/IP for broadband.
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
Time to live left = 115 hops

TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349) = 00000000

4. Please tell us your operating system i.e. 95, 98, 98SE, ME, 2K or XP=Windows XP Professional.

Here is also what I posted before in the Cable/DSL Forum about my problem too. More 411 if it helps out. Thanx!=Today I just changed over from Earthlink DSL to Comcast Cable Internet service and I was wondering when I download stuff my KBps goes up then down kind of or alot then goes up. I'm confused and don't know what to do?? When I was using DSL it keep a steady download speed with the DSL connection when I downloaded files. I mean webpages load fast and everything no problem but when downloading its acting odd. The equipment I have if this will help is the Motorola Cable Modem of course plugged into a 2 Wire 100 Ethernet Router. That is hooked up to the computer in the living room. In my room I have a Linksys Homelink Phoneline 10M USB Network Adapter. Same thing we used for DSL but instead just got the cable modem installed today and reconfigured the router. Can anyone out there please give me some suggestions and tips on how to solve this problem.....if not i will try this out for a lil while and might even switch back to my DSL service. Im not sure yet. Any positive feedback would help thanx alot!

Hey mccoffee,
why does it matter if there are filters on all the phones in the house? Can you please tell me why and how this effects my cable modem speed? Thanx.

You don't need any filters if you are now on cable, filters are for DSL only.

:) :D

Homelink Phoneline 10M USB Network Adapter This is ur promblem I'm assuming,

I say get a network card that is internal unless that's a laptop and make sure the network card supports 100full you are behind a router.

Also if you had no promblems with that network phonline b4 i say keep but it might be hindering performance. That and cable speeds do that alot bounce up and down so it could just be latency. Sorry about that phone filters I saw dsl all over the place. doh

but OTOH ...
from thread USB NIC vs PCI NIC opinion Posted by YeOldeStonecat
on 06-07-03 04:52 PM: post http://forums.speedguide.net/showthread.php?s=&postid=1028681#post1028681 link
... Now for gamers....you want the least CPU utilization, and USB will give you a little more CPU utilization.
But with todays PIII and P4 computers....there's way more than enough CPU power for 95% of the websurfers out there.
For hardcore gamers who insist on the lowest ping and the best performance, a quality PCI NIC with good hardware controllers onboard, such as a 3COM or Intel, can't beat those.
CONs of PCI NIC...more and more computers are coming with less internal PCI expansion slots, and many computers these days are coming with so many integrated devices, it's hard to install another PCI card because IRQ's are all taken up.
So for most users out there, a USB NIC is fine, more than fast enough ...

also in the same thread one can read YeOldeStonecat's
... I suspect it's just as reliable, as IMHO and experience
USB NICs have matured to quite the reliable product ...
so go a head :D
