I read that cat 6 can increase your speeds up to 40% ...I happen to be a sucker for this kind of stuff... is there any truth to their marketing claim?

:) :2cool:

It could improve performance in certain environments.

I would take this the same way I take comcasts claim of "up to xxxx times faster than dialup" or even better, "up to xxx times faster than dsl" How do they know what speed my DSL line is?

Marketing hype. You don't even need cat6 for GB ethernet. cat5e works just fine.

Yeah there is "some" truth to it. It'll increase your speeds if you buy it along with shelling out some serious cash for a Gigabit ethernet card for each of your machines and for a gigabit switch. It won;t increase you internet speeds unless you tie into a backbone or something:D But in that case you probably aren't using ethernet rather some fibre lines.
