Okay. I 've tried 5 different CDROM/CDRW/DVDROM devices and the same thing happens with ALL of them in my Epox system.
After installing thr RTR expansion pack I can launch the game anymore. It always says "Please insert the correct CD-ROM"
If I install the game on my MSI system, it works fine.
This is new since I rebuilt my Epox/XP system.
I'm thinking it has something to do with the nForce IDE controller, but it worked fine before.
Anyone have any ideas? EA tech support is a f#@$% joke....

Yeah, all the hardware is setup perfectly. I even tried screwing around with the DMA/PIO settings, moved the drive letters around, everything.
As soon as I install the RTR disc, the game stops loading.
I've also flashed the firmware on both the drives. They are a LiteOn DVDROM and CDRW.
It's got my quite pissed off. I can't plan BF anymore....
Also, I tried getting a No-CD patch online, which fixed that problem, but I got lots of errors connecting to servers online. Regardlessm I shouldn't need to do that, the game should just work fine after a fresh install.

doesn't sound like a cd rom problem to me then.. perhaps something about the system?

maybe try makeing a ISO of the cd with something like blindwrite and then run the ISO as a virtual drive with deamon tools.

It's most likely your install of the newer Nforce2 drivers.
It did the same thing to me with my Asus board.
My BF ran fine until I updated to the new Nforce drivers.
Now when I start the game with the cd, I'll get to the BF splash screen, then it tells me to insert the proper cd.
I heard the newer drivers have an issue with the "safedisk" protection on the BF cd.
I've read else where of a number of issues with those drivers. Some good, some bad.
Oh, and then, if you try to uninstall them, it will render your system unbootable if running win2k or Xp.
You get a "cant find "nvatabus.sys" error.
Nividia has instructions on how to get back to an earlier verision if you choose to.
I didn't feel like it so I kinda did was Snake suggested. I made an image with clone cd and am using a virtual drive.
Works fine now. :)

Thanks for the input guys. After some more testing the other day I pretty much figured it was something to do with the nForce drivers.
I used CloneCD to copy and mount a virtual image and it works fine now :)

I'm just using CloneCD. I made an image of it to disk, then used CloneCD's Virtual CD option to mount the image to a virtual disk.

This is exactly what I was going to suggest. Alcohol 120% is another good program to use.
i have a legal copy, but still use the "no CD". No troubles since.
