OFFICIALLY CANCELLED

After having so much fun in Detroit meeting some SG'rs, I'm thinking of having a party at my pad this coming autumn sometime.

Location...104 Cove Road, Stonington, Connecticut 06378.

Sat September 6th...weekend after labor day. Sunday we can go find a Denny's for Noevo and BMED.

Faust...good excuse to visit your mother!

Places to stay list:
Stonington Motel....not many places to stay in Stonington, this one is small, cheap, absolutely not fancy.
http://ctlodgingassoc.travelhero.com/index.cfm/id/5094/aid/9/city/Stonington/index.html

And in one of the main drags in Mystic, Rt 27 right near the Aquarium and the Seaport Musem, is the usual generic Marriot chains..Days Inn, Comfort Inn, etc etc. Still only minutes from my house.

http://ctlodgingassoc.travelhero.com/index.cfm/aid/9/id/81349/index.html

http://ctlodgingassoc.travelhero.com/index.cfm/aid/9/id/5059/index.html

Transportation....yes this one will be a bit more difficult than the Michigan SG meet...which was quite near the airport. My place is "roughly" an hour from TF Green airport by Providence RI, and also Bradley airport just north of Hartford CT. Although each is a similar distance from my house, TF Green airport is actually quicker trip wise, and easier.

There is an Amtrak train station only 5 minutes from my house...right by downtown Mystic.

TF Green to Amtrak link:
http://www.airporttaxiri.com/schedule.html
Amtraks's Mystic Station:
http://www.amtrak.com/stations/mys.html

Car Rentals at TF Greene:
http://www.pvdairport.com/ground_transport/car_rentals.htm
Nice little bar/lounge at the airport to hang around at, perhaps wait for other peeps to arrive to a group can rent a car and head on down..save $$$ that way.

Well, a version of that. We'll pickup whoever gets so drunk they pass out...and throw them in the cove. Hopefully it will be low tide...with nice stinky black mud!

///wonder how Brembo's WRX will handle in that deep mud...///

The boathouse is right on the water. But I'm hiding the keys to my boat! No telling what kinda trouble you can get into tearing up the cove at 65+ mph at 2am in the morning lit up like a wild banshee!

There's one that stops in New London CT. That's about 15 minutes. I don't know if there are closer bus stops.

Amtrak has a depot right in Mystic....5 minutes from me.

300 men go out and 148 couples come back. What happened to the other 4 men? They wished they had joined the ARMY to avoid the frequent butt attacks and would not convert to homosexuality, so they were tossed overboard.

Actually I am the SIDPERS Programmer. I used to be in Field Artillery but left that and went full time as the Programmer for Indiana.

I really have no grudge against any of the other 2 branches (Navy and Air Force). I am proud that they serve period.

I am wondering though. What city is this we are going to be at?

My Soiree? Southeastern corner of Connecticut. New London is the biggest city near me. Also Groton (Sub/Navy base there). I'm in Stonington, next to Mystic, which is next to Groton, which is across the river from New London.

Ok I wanted to look it up to see how far of a drive it would be, I don't really think I want to pay for a plane ticket and I am not certain about a bus or train. Never traveled that way before.........

According to maps.com it is
Total distance: 833.8 mi
Total travel time: 13.3 hours
This is traveling from Indianapolis, IN to New London, CT

I think I could talk the better half into the trip and she could go see some sights if she likes. I guess it would depend on the date. We will have to wait until that is set.

I would fly with the airfares being so darn cheap but if you and the your better half haven't been on a road trip to this end of the US I would highly recommend driving. ;)

Hey, nice aerial shot! That's "Stonington Borough"....also known as "Stonington Village"...the historical fishing fleet town. Was mostly made up of Portugese families...but with the fishing industry taking such a huge hit over the past couple of decades with regulations....it's been dwindling, and rich New Yorkers moving into the "quaint" little village, driving up prices of what used to be poor old housing.

That little island you see in the middle...that's "Sandy Point"...that's my playground in the summertime. That whole area is where I spend most of my boating time. It gets packed out there.

OK, see the distance from that little beach island to the tip of Stonington Point peninsula, say where the line begins for the arrow pointing to the Inn? Take that distance, keep going to the right side 3 times...off the right side of the map. There are two more peninsula's to the right...after that second one, you'll be at my cove, where my house is.:D

I will post links for places to stay near me, and try to look into transportation options to post from the airports. Bradley airport, in Hartford CT, is about the same distance from me as TF Green airport which is by Providence, RI. Yet TF Green is a shorter drive, under an hour from my pad. Bradley airport can take longer because of driving through congested Hartford.

Eh I've driven home from there in under 50 minutes...used to drive up to South Windsor several days a week for about a year working on their school systems network.

You should try driving from the southeast corner to the northwest corner, north of Danbury...even at my speeds that's seriously a 2.5 hour drive. Luckily only one client way up there.

If enough peeps are coming to keep it going...it will be Sat for the main roast. Sunday those who are still in town..we'll go nurse our hangovers somewhere for breakfast.

oh well...I will try to make it whenever you plan on having it, if you are going to push it back why not wait until UOD gets back home?

See thread in Gen forum, waiting for a definite last show of hands. So far you would be the 2nd definite show up, after Bala.
