I've just reformatted my harddrive, fresh WinXP Pro installation no tweaks made yet. Below is my Analyser report, I'm on Comcast cable in Sarasota Florida, I think my speeds are 1.5Mbps/256Kbps. Any help is much welcomed. Thanks.

PS. It seems my best download speed so far was been 180KB/sec, could i better it?

TCP options string = 020405b401010402
MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.
MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which equals MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 64240
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 64240

RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
bandwidth * delay product:

Your RcvWindow limits you to: 2569.6 kbps (321.2 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 1027.84 kbps (128.48 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
Time to live left = 110 hops

TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349) = 00000000

180 kB is very good, more than 90% of caps (1500/8 = 187.5 kB/s)

download cablenut and update...

http://www.student.ipfw.edu/~gottjl01/files/cablenut408.exe
http://dslnuts.com/update.shtml

install both and right clic cable & dsl 1500_256.ccs in W2K_XP cable folder, Apply ccs settings, confirmation, close all windows and reboot

I've tried those tweaks you suggested Piranha but now when I'm playing Battlefield1942 online the games are always laggy. Any reason why this would be?

i think if your at your caps then dont tweak stuff, dont fix it if it aint broke.

Please read my help & tips link to find out how to find your optimum RWIN value then do the following:

Download the TCP Optimizer (http://www.speedguide.net/files/TCPOptimizer.exe) and try the following settings.

Settings tab:

select - cable modem
check - custom settings
network adapter selection - your NIC
check modify all adapters
maxmtu - 1500
TTL - 64
TCP Receive Window - value you found
MTU Discovery - yes
Black Hole Detect - no
Selective Acks - yes
Max Dup ACKs - 3
TCP 1323 Options - uncheck both boxes

Other Settings tab:

Max Connections per Server - 10
Max Connections per 1.0 Server - 20
Lan Browsing Speedup - optimized

Then select "Apply Changes" and reboot to take effect.

VERY IMPORTANT TO DO THE FOLLOWING

1. Under your LAN connection - properties - general tab, uninstall all the protocols there that you do not need.

2. Open IE and select tools - internet options - connections - LAN settings, make sure NOTHING there is checked.

3. Make sure you have the latest drivers for your NIC from the manufacturer. Set your NIC duplex mode to 10mb half duplex for Cable, for DSL it is ISP dependent unless you are using a router, if so then set it to 100mb full duplex for both Cable & DSL (the instructions are in my Help & Tips link (http://forums.speedguide.net/showthread.php?s=&postid=643301#post643301)). If you are using a router make sure you have the latest firmware.

4. Clear your temporary internet files.

5. Power cycle your modem, unplug it for atleast 15 seconds.

6. Download and update then do a scan with SpyBot (http://beam.to/spybotsd) & Ad Aware 6.0 (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download) to remove any spyware then install and update SpywareBlaster (http://www.wilderssecurity.com/spywareblaster.html) to stay spyware FREE.

7. Make sure you do the faster web page tweak in my Help & Tips link (http://forums.speedguide.net/showthread.php?s=&postid=643301#post643301).

I've checked my rwin setting using the calculator. When doing the latency test I'm getting results in the 30-40ms range then when I try doing a download with the tracert running at the same time as per the instructions at dslreports my latency goes up to about 55-70ms range. Why is the example showing latency results at 200ms and up ? And what does this low latency result mean for me?

thanks

My results so far ..

MTU 1500
MSS 1460

My highest latency when under a download was 95ms, all others were averaging 55-65ms

The Rwin suggested of 192000 by j79zlr is very much higher than the rwin suggested from using the rwin calculator which gives me a figure of 16060. I'm getting lost here. All I want to do is improve my online gaming. What is my best bet?

This tweak by mnosteele ..
On the right for ALL OS's change these entries: (ALL values are HEXIDECIMAL)

Class = 1
DnsPriority = 1
HostsPriority = 1
LocalPriority = 1
NetbtPriority = 1

On my OS WinXP Pro it shows .. (Before tweak)
Class = 0x00000008 (8)
DnsPriority = 0x000007d0 (2000)
HostsPriority = 0x000001f4 (500)
LocalPriority = 0x000001f3 (499)
NetbtPriority = 0x000007d1 (2001)

Do I still change it?

192000 is the AFD Receive Window, computer side of things. Teh GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize and TcpWindowSize are the values of the RWIN to the internet. The Default Receive Window is determined by your download caps, and the tcp window is determined by the method mno describes.

Those are the Cablenut settings I gave you ;)

Those reg entries should be changed, the values you show are the XP defaults, those new values increase the priority of all things internet on your PC.

In 2K & XP RWIN = GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize & TcpWindowSize. As j79zlr stated, DefaultReceiveWindow is an AFD parameter not a TCP/IP parameter.
